Glad to be back...(again)

Hello again everyone.

I used to post here under the same name some time ago and had two Ford Rangers in the Garage. I'm assuming that at some time there was a purge of inactive users and I was swept up in it. When I re-registered my email was available so....

I'm going to start tracking the FE in my '24 Ford Maverick that I bought used in February. It's a 2.0l Turbo, not the hybrid, but the FE I'm seeing so far is in hybrid territory.

Currently, my daily commute is 134 miles round trip (67 each way) on 2-lane blacktop roads with about 5% in town miles. The factory mpg given on the dash is usually 1.2-ish miles per gallon high. I know enough to do the math (miles driven divided by gallons at fill up) to get an actual number. I usually fill to the first automatic shut off only, unless I know for sure it shut off early. The tank is a 16 gallon tank.

I've been really surprised that my mileage is in the hybrid territory even though it's a 2.0T Ecoboost and an automatic transmission.

The pictures (if the site lets me attach them as I'm technically a "new user") show the miles driven before leaving the gas station and the receipt showing the gallons pumped into the tank.

First picture comes out to 36.41 mpg. Second picture comes out to 36.76 mpg.

Welcome back!

Mods? Always nice to see/hear about them.

Do you have an oil and/or coolant pre-heater?
Besides the extra fuel used in a cold engine, there's research saying that cold running is responsible for most engine wear.

I'd organise the plug in the front bumper or somewhere where forgetting/omitting to unplug; auto unplugs when you reverse out in the morning.
Oh and a timer set to switch on before, if you always leave at the same time, And/or a remote.

Thank you everyone for the return welcome. No real mods yet. My Maverick is in the EM Garage under Maverick 2.0T. I may lower it a bit in the future, but for now I'm just enjoying it. A bought it used in February. Since I've owned it I've driven over 9k miles (in town, 2 lane bkacktop, and interstate speeds) and I'm averaging 34.4 mpg according to the dash. Im sure it's off a bit. It always seems a bit high.

540 miles on 15.12 gallons comes out to 35.71 mpg. Not too bad for a non-hybrid.

Suppose you wanted to hit 40 MPG. That would be like a 12.5% delta in Cd. It looks like a half-tonneau wouldn't get you there, but a half tonneau and spoiler or a full aerocap would.

What kind of access to the bed do you need?

Small potatoes and weak tea, apparently: 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid >60 mpg

Maybe you can pick up some tips from there. Two to four years ago, you'd have several posters urging an aerocap, and one [aerohead] or two wanting to see an inflatable boat tail. How much do you use the bed?
