Gmail users: EcoModder needs your (easy) help!

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...Gmail_logo.png

Ecomodders who are Gmail users, we need your help!

Short version...

Please check your spam folder for mail from EcoModder, and mark it as NOT SPAM (and please reply here that you did).

Long version...

Google is constantly battling spammers, and is getting more and more strict over time on what it considers legitimate email. Apparently, they are now flagging messages from EcoModder as spam on a regular basis.

We need your collective help to fix this.

We recently sent out our monthly newsletter/update. If you did NOT see this in your in-box, please check your spam folder. If it is in your spam folder, please mark it as 'not spam'.

Note: you may have to click the "MORE" link beneath your Gmail folder list to actually see your spam folder.

(If you really do not want to receive the newsletter or other occasional notices from us, uncheck "receive email from administrators" in your EcoModder control panel.)

Google says they rely on user reports to classify mail senders. So, if we get enough of you to do this, it should help. This is especially a pain for new users if their confirmation email goes into their spam folder -- many new Gmail users never complete their account registrations as a result.

We'd also REALLY like to hear what you find: whether you see the latest newsletter in your spam folder or in-box, please reply here and let us know.

t vago 10-18-2013 02:11 PM

I think I might have deleted the latest newsletter by mistake. My spam folder contains items which date from 16 October, the last time I cleaned it out.

MetroMPG 10-18-2013 03:24 PM

Thanks for checking.

Anybody else find EM stuff in their spam folder?

B440 10-18-2013 10:15 PM

Found in my spam folder. Marked "not spam" and important to me.

UltArc 10-18-2013 11:55 PM

Four from EcoRenovator, now all marked Important and Not Spam. On the e-mail for my EcoModder, 42 went from normal to Important, one from Spam to Not Spam, and Important (this one was the Oct. 15th newsletter).

MetroMPG 10-19-2013 11:59 AM

Thanks for the updates, guys!

I also heard via e-mail from a new, unconfirmed user who happened read this thread and who saw no sign at all of the confirmation message. (I manually activated him.)

I also directly contacted about 10 other new, unconfirmed Gmail users. A few are now signed up.

Any more Gmail users reading this? Please have a look in your spam folders & let us know what you see.

I haven't found anything from ecomodder in my spam box that I recall. Gmail is weird, though, so I do check my spam folder daily.

Flakbadger 10-19-2013 12:51 PM

This is the first time Ecomodder's monthly letter has ended up in my spam folder. I just told GMail it's not spam.

To be perfectly honest I kind of hate GMail. It's really getting overly complicated to use.

Yah, I'm thinking of switching over to something else, too. I got something like 15 separate email accounts with the web hosting plan I use, but I'm only using 2 of them right now. Might be time to switch over...

Same here. Hope we can help.

MetroMPG 10-21-2013 12:43 PM

Thanks again, guys.

I Found a bunch of ecomodder emails in the spam folder. I marked all as not spam.

Daox 10-24-2013 10:35 AM

I'm bumping this. Thanks for you guys help so far.

We could really use more help though so #1 this stops, but also #2 it doesn't happen again in the future.

Arragonis 10-24-2013 03:51 PM

Checked mine and no Ecomodder posts in there as of now. I have had this before with GMail but marking one post as "not spam" clears it.

t vago 10-25-2013 05:23 PM

I think that a lot of the problem stems from the fact that EcoModder.com messages tend to superficially resemble spam. I have no trouble at all with Gmail with messages being sent from "EcoModder.Com" <webmaster@ecomodder.com>, for instance, but anything that falls outside of that seems to give Gmail fits. For instance, email that fits the pattern of "firstnameonly" <firstnameonly@ecomodder.com> would tend to be flagged.

I'd also strongly recommend to the Admin team to pass moderation-type messages using PM, either in addition to or instead of using emails. It seems that Gmail's spam filter also classifies moderation messages from here as spam.

mechman600 10-25-2013 08:11 PM

Had four Ecomodder message in my spam, including the last newsletter. Marked it as "not spam."

Good points there. We do have a number of things we can do to make it less likely Google flags us. (They have guidelines...)

Good idea on the PM idea. First we'd need to offer users a way to opt out of newsletter PM's though, as we do with emailed ones.

I don't think it'd be necessary to send the monthly newsletter as a PM. I was thinking more along the lines of actual admin team -> member communications, such as the one I got not too long ago from Darin. Gmail said that was spam (not a good thing), even though I continue to get automated thread update emails from EcoModder that are somehow not flagged as spam (and that's a good thing, there). Admin team -> member messages should not be blocked in PMs, anyhow.

cptsideways 10-29-2013 01:30 PM

I think it might help if the default in user CP was not "email me every day" in subscribed threads, just checked my spam folder & there hundreds of them in there.

Daox 12-19-2013 02:59 PM

Bumping this again this month. Please help out, thanks. :)

Arragonis 12-19-2013 03:29 PM

Ecomodder updates appear fine in my GMail as do the monthly news updates.

punkdali 01-10-2014 01:12 PM

marked my activation, welcome and first private message as "not spam"

Daox 01-10-2014 02:47 PM

Thanks Punkdali.

MetroMPG 01-10-2014 03:01 PM

Thank you.

t vago 01-21-2014 04:22 PM

Bump - my monthly newsletter again was in Spam. Un-spammed it.

Arragonis 01-21-2014 05:41 PM

Fine for me, it was the next email underneath the one noting t_vago's post.

EDIT :

TurnpikeCruiser 01-27-2014 08:40 PM

I had the most recent January update and all my recent PM notices in my Spam folder. All marked as Not Spam and placed back into my Inbox.

Daox 01-28-2014 12:34 PM

Thanks!

rusefi 04-08-2014 10:11 AM

Do not know if this is relevant, but registration activation emails got into my Gmail inbox without any problems.

MetroMPG 04-08-2014 10:46 AM

It is relevant & good to know - thanks, rusefi.
