None of those seem to appeal much to me lol...

I may end up sticking with a midsize car or smaller...

My first two day weekend driving with both platforms yielded me 308mi driven commercially, plus the 160miles or so it takes me to commute up there and back home... so I really could average close to 2000 miles a month in tax deductible use... fuel efficiency is definitely gonna be important on my vehicle selection...

2000 miles a month....a good Prius is sounding pretty nice, but avoid 2010 and 2011. A Gen2 Insight would get roughly the same economy, but be a bit smaller, avoid 2012 and 2013.

Why avoid the 10-11 Prius? It’s likely the only years of G3 that I could afford...

Rattles; fewer standard features such as Bluetooth connectivity.

You should be able to find a 2012 private party under $10k. That will give you more years of Uber service too.

2010 and 2011, especially 2010, had more issues with excessive oil burning. Same with the 2012 and 2013 Insights.

A 2012 with 120k-150k should be $7k-$8k, at least that's what they were when we were looking for one. We ended up going with an 08 with 98k because of the lower mileage, a good deal, and a healthy battery. The Gen 3 is slightly larger and gets slightly better fuel economy.

My parents have 160K miles on their 2010 Prius. My dad is a mechanic and does the maintenance by the book*. The only repair he has done is replacing the rear calipers this last winter. That is a pretty common problem in Michigan. The road salt corrodes the pistons and they seize.

*Well not quite by the book. He is old school and believes in 3,000 mile oil changes. I've convinced him to only change the oil every 5,000 miles. (Toyota recommends every 10K miles) His Prius doesn't burn any oil.

I change the oil in the Prius once a year, regardless if it needs it or not. I've put 14,000 on the oil and Blackstone always says my samples look good and can go a few thousand more miles.

Don't take our word for it...head on over to PriusChat.com and read up on Prii there if you're interested. Lots of good information from people who know a lot more about Prii than I do....I'm just repeating what I gleaned from there during my search.

Many people have done fine with their 2010s and 2011s.
