Got 34mpg

Getting 34mpg a new high for me before I stared I always got around 26mpg...but im running really hot during idle coasting 214 per ultragauge...I do not have a grill block...but I idle at 500roms...is it normal to be this warm idle coasting?

Congratulations on your new high. My SE-R used to only get 26 mpg before I started hypermiling. I brought its average to 38 mpg its last 20,000 miles.

No, 214 is probably too high. I'm surprised your radiator fan isn't kicking on at 204 degrees. Coolant temperatures run hottest at idle when stopped. When the car is rolling, temperatures should be cooler.

You might try coasting engine off, if you can work up to being comfortable with that. Try it in a parking lot to see how the steering feels & how many pumps on the brakes you have w/o power assist. You'll see about 20 degrees lower temperature w/EOC.

Thx SE-R.....I tried EOC coasting my security system activates and I have to use my transmitter to enable it again...also interstate is really hard for me car is at 4400rpms @70mph...but my redline is 8800rpms...I guess my cars water pump loves rpms

Maybe you can wire a hidden toggle switch & relay to your security system so you can deactivate it when you want to EOC.

If you're running an underdrive pulley, it'll cause higher coolant temps.

Not much you can do about that buzz-bomb gearing. My xB runs 3500 rpm @70 mph. I don't drive it faster than 60, and P&G between 50 and 60 a lot. I put it on cruise control when I see big trucks approaching from behind, and P&G the rest of the time. Keeping speeds down is the biggest factor in mpg. My SE-R is highway rated 26 mpg. It got 26 mpg on the 800 mile round-trip to my mom's with the cruise control set to 72 mph. If I set CC to 62 mph, my FE rose to 33-34 mpg, and 55 mph netted me 38 mpg.
