Greetings

Good day everyone!!

I've been following this forum for quite some time and I must say you are doing a great job!!

I'd like to share my experience with you.

I own a 1998 Rover 400, 2.0 Turbo diesel (same engine as a Honda Civic 2.0 diesel). Currently I'm getting 40 mpg (7 l/100 km) city driving and 70 mpg (4 l/100 km) highway which translates to a range of over 600 miles (1000 km) per tank.

Mods so far: installed an inter-cooler, changed wheels from 14" to 15" and tires from 205/55 to 185/65. I must say that the engine is NOT in any way electronically controlled, it's fully mechanical, so the result depends on the driving style.

Also I own a 2000 Honda CB500S. I keep wondering why people are getting poor mileage from this motorcycle. I don't use it for city driving, only highway and freeway. I have done about 6200 miles (10.000 km) this year and the results are the following:
steady driving through villages and accelerating up to 75 miles/h (120 km/h) of highways returns 70 mpg (about 4 l/100 km). I've checked it by simply adding 16 liters of gasoline on top of the reserve and just drove. The moment the speedometer showed 401 km (249 miles) I had to switch to reserve.

No mods so far, but planning to install one size smaller jets and change gear ratio to reduce rpm in 6th gear with 400 rpm.

That mileage for the CB500 really sounds good.

Not sure though. Taking into account that even a modded FJ 1100 can return 70 mpg ..

I will try to improve the CB. As I said, new jets, maybe needle adjustments, iridium spark plugs, smaller sprocket on the back and touring tires are on their way this summer. Oh, and a new thermostat :)))

Welcome to the posting side! Its good to hear from you. It sounds like you're getting pretty good mileage from both of your vehicles, good job!

Lys 06-12-2014 01:50 PM

I am now running 10 PSI @ 2000rpm and 14PSI at 2300+RPM, but the engine never sees more than 3000 rpm.
