Greetings from new Metro "vert owner

I've been lurking for a while, after picking up a 91 Metro 'vert automatic 2 Months ago. Just picking up on a few tips here has taken me from 32 MPG (first tank) to 40!:D Thanks for the inspiration to persue MPG enhancements as a money-saving hobby!
I have a 80 mile R/T commute, that is about 50% stop & go on the 405 in LA. Getting 40MPG on this commute with an automatic just makes me grin....

Welcome to ecomodder! Glad to see you're improving already, but I bet you can do even better, ;)

Welcome to the site. Looks like you got a good start there. What are the automatic Metros EPA rated for anyways?

EPA for the automatic vert is 28/33. My 1st tank of 32 combined is right there. After picking up a few driving pointers, running 8% larger tires @ 40PSI, and disconnecting the shift solenoids, I got it up to 40 on my commute.

Hi Ray. Curious: what were you driving before?

It's fun isn't it? I see in your garage profile you're planning an XFi cam swap. What else is on the radar?

If I had a vert, I'd be thinking up a way to make a removable aero-optimized hardtop for use on those days you're not going top-down.

Welcome to the site.

Metro mpg,
I love this little car, it is like a go-kart.
My previous commute was 2 miles, & I drove a 3/4 ton 4X4, or an 05 Mustang. When I took my new job 40 miles away, I realized that I had to change my ways.
In researching to select an economic car, I stumbled upon your Metrompg website, this webste, the metro yahoo group, and team swift. The more I read, the more I wanted a Metro.
I picked a vert to keep it fun, and an automatic to save my knee in the stop & go freeway drive. I realize that I gave up some MPG with this combination, but this car suits me perfectly. The initial MPG was great in comparison, but I am enjoying trying to squeeze more out of it just out of principal. In my younger days I would mod for power, now I mod for MPG.
