GRID CHARGER questions
 
should I consider a grid charger?
is there a good write up on how they work?
maybe a FAQ?

I've seen many people mentioning them for the HCH IMA batterys
and I've seen they sell kits for the PRIUS as well

(I'm considering picking up a 2005 civic hybrid (manual) its already had the battery replaced)
and my wife currently has a 2010 prius

I've done a little searching,
only finding the key word "Grid Charger" every time someone mentions one.

Personally used https://hybridautomotive.com/ on both HCH2 and Prius.

With the ability to use Techstream to do in-car discharge tests on a Prius, battery recovery is pretty dramatic provided no error codes have been thrown yet.

IMA NEEDS a grid charger. The honda packs are ... less than optimal.

It's also possible to restore the capacity of degraded cells somewhat with this system, but not to the extent of a unit that reconditions individual cells by cycling them.

Some considerations - a slower charge will produce less heat, which is the worst enemy of these batteries. Even charging at 300ma I'm going to be running the battery cooling fan.
