Gummint says gas to average $2.60 in 2015

Government: Gas to Average $2.60 Next Year | KSTP TV - Minneapolis and St. Paul

I have my doubts. Everyone in the supply chain has gotten used to getting higher prices and despite the whining most consumers have gotten used to paying them.

$2.299 2.5 miles from home. Wrong again gubbmnt. Heard it was $1.89 today at some gas war in OK. Less than 7 cents a mile in Sinatra and a little over 3 on the bike, if it ever warms up again.

OK then! I think we should just cancel the server hosting and start it up again a year from now.

All in favour? :)

Frank Lee 12-12-2014 11:10 PM

Nay!

MetroMPG 12-12-2014 11:37 PM

I jest, I jest!

EM is doing okay. We keep tabs on 2 other similar forums, where activity has really dropped off (more like long, slow declines actually). Despite the current & impending cheap U.S. gas, we're still humming along here. Yes, it's quieter than usual, but nowhere near as cricket-y as it might be.

roosterk0031 12-12-2014 11:40 PM

They have to keep the prices swinging, if they stay high too long straight we might get serious, just enjoy the low point of the wave, it will be pushing $4.50+ at the next crest.

UltArc 12-13-2014 12:31 AM

$2.259 within a half hour radius of here.

My pals in new jersey are envious...and not just because I am trusted to pump my own gas...lol

Baltothewolf 12-13-2014 12:57 AM

Meh, I'm still willing to save that extra 2-4$ per tank of gas. It's a hobby to me.

Cobb 12-13-2014 03:03 AM

Still 2.50 a gal here, I am waiting for the 1.99 a gal like in OK.

But when the price bottoms out, everyone here will be testing their mods

The Marauder will soon be the most common vehicle in the ecomodder fleet. (And people will be asking about hho and throttle body spacers for it.)

I wonder how many people just come to this site and read about techniques, then incorporate them into their daily driving. I see, admittedly rarely, people driving using techniques that are proven effective. Driving the speed limit or slower, coasting to red lights, mostly the first stages of what we call hypermiling.

When I first came here a while back there were predictions of $5 a gallon in the US by today's date. Now we are looking at half that price.

We see car companies adopting some of our ideas. While cheap fuel may delay that process, can we really call the fuel "cheap". I just hope that someone can find a nice decent paying job or maybe a few million with the money we are not spending on fuel. My last week cost me $18.17.

I filled up for $30 on thursday, compare that to $65 when I bought the car at the beginning of June!

bhazard 12-13-2014 09:10 AM

$2.99 for diesel at a couple stations out this way, still $3.49-3.79 at most others. Apparently those two stations just wanted the extra traffic. $41 to fill the TDI.

UltArc 12-13-2014 01:11 PM

Diesel out here is still 3.6x range! I need to do some internet searches on why. Diesel [while growing up] was always at least a quarter cheaper.

pgfpro 12-13-2014 01:48 PM

In my area gasoline is $2.31 verses $3.33 for diesel.

awcook 12-13-2014 03:04 PM

This tank was purchased when gas was $2.79 here in Oklahoma. It is now down to $1.97 within a 5 mile radius. I am enjoying every second of it (except for the fact that I paid almost $10 more for this tank :( ). Next tank will be even better for me I guess. Even though it is Winter, I will not be driving too much (semester ended :) ), so this tank should last until December 20, then next tank will last to January or February hopefully :).

My budget is going the be saving even more money now =D

The donkey CRX 12-13-2014 04:29 PM

I guess it is all relative. When I started driving in the 1960's gas was $0.25 cents a gallon. I had a VW with a 10 gallon tank and remember thinking if gas keeps getting more expensive it will probable cost me $3 to fill up. Of course, I was making $1 an hour stocking shelves at Kroger at the time.

So gas needs to get a lot cheaper if they want to dampen my desire for more MPG's:D

ecoTex 12-13-2014 05:47 PM

We've got one station in San Antonio at $1.99. But most are still around $2.30 for unleaded and, for some stupid reason $3.70 for diesel!

ocnorb 12-14-2014 09:55 PM

I once read an article written by a statistician that showed that government forecasters were wrong an amazing 100% of the time!!

It used to be refining diesel was easier then unlead, and while technically that is still somewhat true, the stuff they don't refine out of diesel to get to unlead is valuable and in demand in it's own right. Basically, although it costs more to get to unlead you also end up with a bunch of valuable jet fuel and feed stock for high octain unlead. Diesel is also taxed $.06/gal more on the federal level. In my state the state is also $.06/gal more. Finally another government estimate is the ultra low sulfur mandates cost as much as $.25/gal at the pump.

Frank Lee 12-15-2014 01:54 AM

Prices for regular still dropping here; saw $2.37 today.

Baltothewolf 12-15-2014 05:00 AM

Same here, gas is 2.89. I haven't seen it this low since I started driving.

The_Jed 12-15-2014 06:41 AM

It's in the low $2.50 range here. I brought out my beloved Lincoln for a few more miles in 2014 before the snow falls and the salt is scattered every where.

UltArc 12-15-2014 06:46 AM

2.209 everywhere yesterday- but didn't see one 2.199 or lower. I am not sure if we hit lowest possible low, or if its still going to dive. All my cars still have over a half tank, prices could be over 3 before I fill again!!! :(

I find that hard to believe, just on the stopped clock principle :-)

Am I the only one who thinks that as soon as ISIS runs out of oil it can steal and/or produce with forced labor, and dump on the market for whatever they can get, that the price of gas will shoot right back up again?

user removed 12-15-2014 04:29 PM

23 miles on the bike today, 69 cents for gas.

Fat Charlie 12-15-2014 04:32 PM

We need to start speculating in oil futures. It'll drive the price up and we'll make money off of it!

All I need to do to make prices drop more, is go fill my 3-5 gallon jugs.

^YES! That's how that works.

How does one data point prove them wrong about an average?

I filled up for $2.709/gallon and that is one of the better prices around. Two blocks away, a station was at $3.399/gallon. Amazingly, there were people there filling up anyways!

Average price where my parents live (Alaska) is $3.30/gallon still. While you expect prices to be high in remote areas, they both produce oil and refine it in the state...

Frank Lee 12-15-2014 07:10 PM

We will have to wait until about this time next year to see how good their prediction was.

It's weird how Alaska doesn't have as low gas prices as Oklahoma, since they obviously produce more gas than us. $3.30 is much higher than the $1.99 I paid today. Whatever the government says about the national average of 2015, you can just subtract $0.30-0.45 from that to see what I will be paying for gas :p

jcp123 12-15-2014 08:55 PM

Oh, the gub'ment prognosticating again.

Fat Charlie 12-16-2014 08:27 AM

How many refineries are there in Alaska? They've got to import gas just like they do everything else.

California98Civic 12-16-2014 08:52 AM

This is the year to buy a very efficient used vehicle. They're cheaper now. This is the year to sell your guzzler. It'll fetch a better price now.

jakobnev 12-16-2014 10:47 AM

This is the year to buy oil rigs.

freebeard 12-18-2014 03:12 AM

I filled up with clear premium in Cedar Flat on the 15th: $4.299/gallon.

The stuff with corn in it was ~$3/gallon.

Gas prices have dropped significantly, even here in Europe.
So the "incentive" to economise and seek alternatives has gone - again.

With the economic downturn, new fuel sources, and the US importing ever less, crude has dropped in price.
Suppliers ain't increasing prices as they'd force themselves out of the market.
There's crude aplenty - for now.

If the next US president doesn't start a new war with some major oil-producing country - pick your choice - gas will stay low until the economy really pics up again.
