Cadillac uses them on a few vehicles, you can buy them used for $1,500 each at junk yards.
Keeping them cool is part of the problem that they had.

ryland thanks for info...from what i've been finding is that you can buy type 9005 bulbs that are plug & play with 102 or 120 leds in them and to put them in a set of projector headlights should work...i guest i'll have to buy them to test it out to see how well thay work at night

and the lumen output of them makes them entirely useless as headlamps. probably fine as DRLs, but as a source of illumination, worthless.

9005 are normally highbeams, 9006 for lows. 9005 incandescent bulbs are normally around 1700 lumens, with 9006 at ~1000 lumens.

HIR automotive bulbs

alternatively, HIR bulbs put off a lot more light for an identical amount of power consumed.

how many lumens are those LED replacements rated for?

not sure what the lumens are...will have to check it may take a couple of days to get the info...the projector headlights that i got have the same bulb type in each ( hi/low ) which are 9005 and 65 watts...the set that are in the car right now, which are projector headlights and have h1 type bulbs and 100 watts 7500k

"Lumens" are a measure of the amount of human-visible light emitted by something.

Lumen (unit) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The higher the number, the more light that we can see is thrown out. The lower the number, the less (visible) light is thrown out.

Big power (wattage) numbers don't mean much if there isn't much coming out that we can actually see.

I know the prius has them as an option, but i havent been impressed. I did buy a Chinese made 3x cree 6 watt led flashlight on ebay and wow, it could replace your high beams.

some other dave...im trying to fine out what the lumens are for the bulbs from the seller it may take a couple of days...the watts is only 8.
the other lights thrown out alot of light close to hid, bright white best desrcibe them in color (7500k).
will be testing them when thay get here.

cobb thats were thay are coming from

Part of the trouble with head lights is that the beam needs to cut off so it doesn't blind oncoming traffic, so cobbling together an LED fog light or search light works great but a head light that is safe is a bit more work.
