It wasn’t the first infotainment system from GM, but it followed shortly after the Graphic Control Center that the company threw on the Buick Riviera back in 1986.

Jim built a set of desktop test tools fondly known as as the “Trofeo in a Box.” This allows him to bench test a unit without having to mess around installing it in an actual car.

For some reason that sounds like a car I would want to buy.

On the other hand my wife was lamenting today that we had gotten rid of the 1972 Super Beetle and 1985 Golf diesel.

I suggested we look into a stick-shift Toyota Previa with a JDM diesel swap.

Stance it.

Canadian Previa supposedly came with a dashboard with tachometer. My son inherited a Previa from his grandfather, then it went to his brother.

I've still got the Superbeetle, but I miss the Dasher. It was for lack of space, I could have let go of the Baja Bug instead.

I was talking with a friend recently, about how newer cars are harder and way more expensive to perform maintenance, so most people will miss their older rides which can be fixed by a farm boy with a screwdriver, no more than 2 or 3 wrenches, and some wire or duct tape...

You mean the full-sized Previa or that smaller one meant to comply with the Japanese compact car regulations regarding width and lenght?

The US-spec had the wide body. I'm not sure about the Euro-spec, yet in some countries that was also available with the 3C-TE Diesel. A fairly good engine TBH.
