Have You Ecomodded *Yourself*?

I know this is a delicate subject, but as you've been ecomodding your ride, have you forgotten to ecomod yourself? Sure, your "spare tire" isn't rotating mass (I hope!), but it still contributes to the efficiency of your vehicle. Lower food consumption helps the environment just as lowered fuel consumption does.

At 165 lbs nowadays, I'm 40 lbs heavier than I was in college; I don't realistically expect to get back down to college weight, but 20 lbs is reachable. I've reduced my beer consumption (mostly high-gravity "snooty" beers) and have started working out and running again.

What are your plans to ecomod yourself? Have you given it any thought?

SVOboy 06-25-2008 01:02 PM

At ~200 I'm prolly 15 pounds heavier than I want to be considering the muscle mass I've put on. When I ran exclusively (marathons) I was around 170, but that's not sensible anymore.

I don't know that I'm doing much, just riding my bike, :)

Nothing wrong with trying to keep healthy.

Doofus McFancypants 06-25-2008 01:02 PM

since crossing 220lbs i am past the lane excuse point.
- I have started taking the stairs in the AM ( 12 flights) man that sicked the first week
- try to drink more HHO ( sorry could not pass that up)
- eat less crap - bring fruit and carrots along with my lunch for snack.

Beer is about 3 a week ( 'CAUSE YOU CAN'T GET YUENGLING IN GEORGIA!!!)
I need to get my Bike tuned up and start riding again. I did the "what is within 2 Miles of your house" thing and there is quite alot.

I am Clean shaven so i have less DRAG when i walk.
But the weight and the "total frontal area" need to decrease.

metroschultz 06-25-2008 01:23 PM

I've dropped 75 lbs in two years bringing me to a trim 275.
I recently acquired a stationary bike and try to ride it 30 time a week.
I am actually getting on 3 - 4 times a week.
I know that I can drop another 75, but those are gonna be the hard ones to make go away.
All i did was PAY ATTENTION to what I am eating and then when I felt a little less heavy, started walking as much as possible.
For instance, with my Grandson here we go to the corner for an Ice Cream Cone on Saturdays. Used to drive, ugh, now we walk. Good for me and my car. My dog wakes me @ 10 am and now instead of pushing her into the back yard to pee, we go for a walk.
Easy stuff really, I should have been doing it all along.

The funny thing is, that once I started ecomodding my car I did look inward to see what I could do too. So far I have been soda free for three months. All I drink now is water and ocassionally juice with my baby girl. So yes slowly but surely I am changing the way I handle my life too ...

Hmmm. Interesting ideas..

I'm a triathlete, so I'm pretty good in the drivetrain performance department.

I did shave my long (1") hair a few weeks ago and I'm due for another round of aeromodding as it's back to a shaggy 1/4". If I can grab it, it's too long. The long hair was just for insulating purposes in the winter and drove me nuts.

As far as weight reduction goes, I noticed 2 years ago what the desk job had done to me so I started working out and put on an additional 10 lbs by the time I got into tris. Now I'm back down to the weight I was when I thought I was out of shape, but another pant size smaller. 6' 175# and I couldn't go much lower without injuring myself.

n8thegr8 06-26-2008 07:09 PM

I'm encroaching on my senior year in college, and between senior year of highschool and the end of 2007, I had gone from 180 to 260, I was miserable with myself, as was my gf. I had high-bp and was incredibly out of shape, so I started eating (and drinking) healthy, and getting 30 minutes of exercise a day, and now I'm back down to 180 after 6 months of hard work, but it's so worth it! I'm never going to let myself get back up there again, I like my current lifestyle so much better!

After:

and I've even lost about 10 pounds since that last picture. I've determined that fast food is the devil :P

^^great job!!!^^

i almost fainted two years ago when i jumped on the scale and it said 175!!

now i am 180-185 and i work out most days usually a bike ride or so. i would love to lose 15 lbs or so but i dont know where it would come from!!

oh well not much hope for me ;)

SVOboy 06-26-2008 07:44 PM

Great job. I love people with strong will power.

I purposefully park in the boonies at my school for ecomodding/health benefits. It takes me 15 minutes to walk the 1-1.5 miles to class everyday, but I'm guaranteed at least minimal exercise. If I'm late, I run the distance. I hate being late, it's all uphill to class.

I worked like hell during highschool for football. Afterwards, I followed Gym Jones for awhile and hope to get back into that type of workout soon. Nowadays I'm lazy and only do my daily pushups/pullups. Someday I'll get back into doing circuits on my bike in the park...aerobic workouts have always been my weak point. :o

If I feel excessively hungry, I eat vegetables. If I feel thirsty, water. Fast food, soft drinks, and beer "are the devil." I need to eat healthier, but I make sure the worst stuff is gone. Ideally, I'd like to start growing my own food.

For financial and personal well-being, I've actively tried to lose/avoid addiction. I've never taken drugs, smoked cigarettes, or drunk alcohol.

i try to be very strict with my diet also, i make most of my meals using fresh veggies, chicken or fish (i avoid beef and cant eat pork :) ) i drink alot of wine, never get drunk (personal reasons against drunkenness) but im jewish so i cant cut the wine out. ;) .

i think the 2 biggest factors on health is consumption of food and drink (starting with quantity and then quality) and exercise.

wholeheartedly agree. Switching to diet sodas alone saved me prolly close to 500 calories a day, lol. I came up with a theory for food. Food is basically just fuel for your body (in the form of caloric energy). You wouldn't fill up your car with poor quality fuel that will damage and clog your system, so why do it to your body? Also, you only fill your gas tank with what's needed, you don't overfill it and waste the fuel by spraying it all over and dumping it on the ground, so why overfill your body wastefully? You also wouldn't just fill up your tank and let the gas sit in it unused for months on end, putrefying and rotting, so why not burn off that caloric energy you have stored up in your fat cells? It's interesting when you take a step back and look at your body objectively.

ebacherville 06-26-2008 11:12 PM

well im no lightweight but i have always been a big guy , not over weight but husky..

However i quit sugar sodas and dropped about 20 pounds and now eat less..

not to mention the riding lawnmower is on the fritz so now that summer is here is push mowing about a 2/3 acre a week... I also figure that saves gas also... I try to mow as fast as I can with out bogging the mower down. guess thats MWL (Mowing With Load) huh? LOL

dwendt1978 06-26-2008 11:21 PM

Yeah, much thanks for starting this post. You JERK!!! Definitely opened a can of worms. I've went from a size 30" pants to a 34 in a year and a half.

Again I say.........you jerk. Gotta start jogging now and lay off the pop.

Lost and Found

Well I lost 40 pounds (down to 165) and in the last couple years, I found most of it again. :o

It really helps with that momentum :p (and not so much in city driving)

In all seriousness, no excuses here -- in the last month, it's starting to come off again (but it's not as easy).

Ecomodding oneself is the opposite of the car -- speeding is encouraged and you don't fill up the tank

RH77

EDIT: MWL -- that's hilarious!

justpassntime 06-27-2008 02:03 AM

I plan on spending all my money on ecomods, eating and drinking beer just take up valuable modding time. Plus the money I save on the food and beer goes towards a bigger power bill for all the tools I use to mod with.

You are so right,
It is called "Fast Food" because
It speeds you on your way to the grave
I lost 20# in what seemed like overnight by avoiding fast food and any other form of fried potatoes. And I Love Cheesey Fries.

Giving up the "blooming onion" from outback was a tough one:)

Bror Jace 06-29-2008 02:30 PM

I'm a rather thin guy ... been so all my life ... but when I hit the big 4 - 0, I accumulated about 5-10 lbs in the typical love-handles sections ... tummy and kidneys. I've been working out more, running twice per week and snacking less. :p

I went from 162lbs to 157lbs in the last 2 months. For someone who has been in great shape all my life, I can't believe how much work that was. When I was younger, I could add or drop 10 pounds in 2 weeks without trying hard. :(

As I get even older, I suspect I'll get more 'aero' as well.

Gone4 06-29-2008 03:23 PM

I'm stuck at 130 lbs and wouldn't mind gaining 10 more :( Lifting weights has been doing crap from me, even with the mentoring of a semi-professional workout instructor. I've pretty much given up and resigned to enjoy riding my bicycle and forgetting about my weight.

dremd 06-29-2008 09:33 PM

I am rewarding myself with lbs of car comforts and convinces.

So far 18 lbs lost, 12 lbs of noise killer, 3 lbs of aux input + TomTom + Ipod.

Personal Weight must be more important that total vehicle weight; right?

I've still got another 40 lbs to loose till I hit what I consider ideal 200lbs.

NoCO2 06-30-2008 01:15 AM

At my best, when I was riding my bike 40 miles per day 4-5 days per week, I was down to around 170lbs. Once I started college I started drinking and got a desk job and I got up to 220lbs, which was the heaviest I've ever been (and ever hope to be). Since starting to commute to work on my bike I've dropped down to 208lbs yesterday when I checked the scale, but I need to do a little more if I ever hope to drop back down to my target of 180lbs.

cpg03 07-23-2008 05:43 PM

I am, erm, what you would call 'lanky'. About 6'1" and 125#. I assume that it must make a fair bit of difference, seeing as my car loses all hill-climbing ability as soon as a passenger gets in.

Are you serious?

I am 6'1" and I weigh 140 lbs. My friends have described me as "the skinniest person alive", "one step away from auschwitz", and "thinspiration". I've also been accused many times of having an eating disorder.

My weight usually follows my growth patterns. I haven't grown significantly in several years, so I have stayed about the same. I gained about 5 lbs in my first year in college, but it was because my ribs were starting to show. Sick, huh?

Man, I couldn't imagine being 125 lbs. I went through a stage in my life at the beginning of my college days where I would eat one meal every 2 to 3 days. I was in severe depression and didn't have motivation to even get out of bed. I was in that phase for about a month, and even after that I still weighed 133 lbs.

With all that said, I am still not above ecomodding myself. I am not a particularly healthy eater. When I have a snack, I always grab something that is either really sweet or really salty. I also drink a lot of Mountain Dew, which has given me some health problems in the past (I used to drink at least 3 liters of it a day). I don't drink as much of it now, but I still feel much more lethargic than when I drank only water. I also notice that I get upset stomach and indigestion more frequently than I used to.

I have also picked up smoking. I only smoke on the weekends (less than 10 cigarettes in a given week) but still every cancer stick is one closer to putting me in the grave. I just smoked up my last pack, so I can no longer say that I'm "throwing money away" by not finishing up the pack.

Will 07-24-2008 08:07 AM

I certainly have no excuses. I am an Army vet., so I know how to keep in shape. Why am I 260 pounds at 5'10"? It's easy that way.

Maybe I should stop with the easy.

Tony Raine 07-24-2008 08:43 AM

i've LOST about 20 pounds since getting married. not really sure how that happened....

it started creeping back up on me, so i started making some changes. i now walk 2-3 miles a day. yeah, i know i should be jogging/running, but i walk to relax first and for exercise second. got a bike i'm fixing up, and looking for another for my wife, so we can go to the parks and ride. (i live on a gravel road and own a road bike, that doesn't go together very well.) pretty much gave up on soda, except for the occasional diet dr pepper.

breakfast is a cup of coffee and either fruit, granola bar, or cereal/oatmeal.

started taking my lunch to work again. to keep some variety, i either have a PB & J or turkey and cheese sandwich, or a "lean" pocket, or a healthy choice. add to that either some fresh or dried fruit, and thats a pretty filling lunch for me.

i've found the key to eating healthy is to keep a variety of healthy food in the house. i get bored with eating the same breakfast/lunch every day, and that tempts me to get some fast food lunch instead.

6'1" @ 125?! At 6' and 150 I thought I was skinny... I haven't been 125 since 8th grade (where I was described as an albino Ethiopian). Go eat something and pick up a heavy object! Now repeat! Gad zooks...

Triathlon season ended on Sunday for me so now on to weight lifting and half marathons... I promised my fiance I'd get my arms, back, and chest back ;-)

Well, thought I'd become a nudist. It didn't work so well so I shaved my head and added a loin cloth to improve ground effects.

cwarnar 07-30-2008 01:24 PM

In November 04 after meeting my wife, I decided to make some major healthier lifestyle changes. At the time I was 5'9 and 222 lbs... a tank to say the least.

A year later I was down to 190 lbs, by making a few simple changes:

No junk food
No pop
No alcohol
No greasy fast food (mostly Subway or Pita's if necessary)
Only whole wheat bread

Now, nearly 4 years later and the weight is still off, I fluctuate from 175-185 depending on my activity levels. I feel way better playing sports and enjoy the compliments I get from people that have not seen me since I lost the weight.

I will try and dig some pictures for the before and after.

5'9 165lbs... far from my wrestling weight in high school (130) but at least I am not green anymore.

There is a site out there called gym journal for anyone who is interested. My user name is the same on this one as well as that one.

My routine is run 3 times a week for 3 miles, lift weight 3 times a week and go surfing or mountain biking on the 7th day. I usually have about a 50% success rate at keeping to that.

Tourigjm 08-05-2008 09:23 PM

I've been in shape for my entire life (im only 21 so...)

I was a competitive gymnast from the time I was 12 untill about 17 years old. I've always been short, im only 5' 5" now, however i've always had alot of muscle mass, and I never really had to watch my weight.

My freshman year of college i weighed 135 pounds.

finishing up my junior year I weighed myself when i got home in the summer... 175 WTF!?!

I've cut out soda and almost all sugar. Eating better in general. I've been trying to work out 5 days a week, minimum 3 mile run or equivalent cardio workout. I'm down to 160 now. I want to get down to 145. Eventually I want to continue training and become a freerunner. continuously working toward that goal, long way to go though.

if you dont know what freerunning/parkour is check out American Parkour - Parkour and Freerunning

Trust Me I've always wished I was a bit bulkier. I'm a farmer, and if I were to do more physical activity, it'd just mean that I would need to eat even more food... I would guess that I'm between three and four thousand calories a day as it is....

cfg83 08-18-2008 04:05 PM

Shawn D. -

I am 5'4", and after High School I think I weighed in the neighborhood of 125 lbs. At age 42 I weigh about 132 lbs. I would rather be sub 130 lbs, but I'm too busy-lazy to do the work.

I think I was raised to watch my weight since my Dad is a diabetic. Because of that, we always had bland low-calorie food around. As a result, I think I have an aversion to "heavy sugar" foods and I don't really get into the culinary delights (or maybe it's a Calvinistic thing on my part, who knows). If I do "social eating" one day, I usually fast/diet the next. I'm not a health food nut by any means, but I also don't eat much, especially in the context of my sedentary programming job.
