HCH 1 battery running low
 

Hi, I've got a Honda Civic Hybrid and it seems to me like my battery (12V) is always running low. In the last 6 months I've seen it at near full capacity once and that was after I had to break hard on an exit ramp. Other than that I'm nearly always having to charge it, which in turn kills millage.

Anybody else experience this or have any ideas?

No, I actually do very little freeway driving in the summer, but I whenever the batter does get 'more full' it just seems to not hold a charge anymore.

you're talking about the normal automotive battery right?

they have a life of about 5-6 years, then they need replacing. when mine went a week ago it just stopped holding a charge all of a sudden. I'm assuming that because you are driving a hybrid it isn't as noticeable because it isn't used to start the car.

That sounds odd compared to what I normally hear about the performance of batteries in the HCH. If it were me, I would hazard a trip to honda and ask them to run a diagnostics on it. Your battery is still under warranty so they shouldn't give you crap about it.

Sounds like you are talking about the high voltage battery pack not the 12v since the 12v doesn't have a gauge attached to it. From your description I think your HCH is performing a recal on the battery pack. Basically the pack is outputting less current than what the BCM and MCM are expecting so its performing a forced charge to recondition and reevaluate the batteries. How many miles do you have on your pack and do you use your IMA alot?
