Hearses?

Many of you might have wondered about a more fuel-efficient hearse which retained some dignity. I've seen that Ford even offered the gas-guzzler 6.8L V10 as an option for the Town Car in its funeral package, which sounded quite dumb when even the regular V8 could be outperformed by some V6.

Well, in the rest of the world nowadays it's not so unusual to find hearses with 4-pot engines instead, including many engines under 2.0L such as the 1.4L flexfuel used in these Brazilian Chevy-based hearses.

White hearses are not exclusive to children and virgin women anymore :D

I like this one because of the panoramic windows which guard some resemblance with European hearses.

Since newer station-wagons are getting rare locally, coupé-utilities have been the most usual base for hearses. The modular body extension and canopy are made out of fiberglass instead of sheetmetal, and are easily reversible when the vehicle gets retired from the funeral service.

I wasn't sure what I was going to be reading when I opened this thread...

But thanks for an interesting reality check.

Why would any one want an engine that powerful? A hearse should be quiet above all, to not distract the ceremony. And you don't need a V-something when leading a procession across the cemetery at 2 km/h. Electric will do just fine.

What's with the roof rails? Maybe ready for a bike rack or a ski box? Or maybe a different kind of box?

Why would you want reversible?

Can I opt for the horse drawn carriage? Talk about style.
Or on the other extreme....cremation, and then being scattered out of an airplane over the coast would be great. Reality check...I'm dead....I don't care and anyone who is attending knows that about me.

i was wondering about the side steps, do they do tandem ceramonies; one vehicle 2 coffins.

The roof rails are there just as an ornament. But 2 coffins can be carried inside the vehicle.

The side steps are a standard feature of the base vehicle used in the conversion, the Chevrolet Montana, known in Mexico as Chevrolet Tornado and in South Africa as Chevrolet Utility.

You can see that the white hearse had the side steps gap covered.

It depends on what you consider as better. Well, at least its bodywork is suitable to the job, and still dignified.
