Hello!

Just a quick hello from the U.K.

I drive an old V.W camper...its as aerodynamic as a brick!

I've replaced the petrol engine with a Golf turbo diesel and had the pump adjusted by removing the governor and different boost pin etc. Yes it uses more fuel when boosting but thats to be expected as its gone from 65bhp to over 100bhp, but when I'm cruising I reckon I get 40mpg. A bit difficult to tell with these old VW speedo's though.

Engine swaps count as pretty hardcore ecomodding ;)
These old VWvans were serious gas guzzlers.

US or IMP ?

40mpg US would be pretty darn good for such a vehicle.
Changing your driving habits with the hypermiling tips (see top of the page) could see you improve your fuel mileage as well.

It's worth checking the odometer against a GPS unit so you know how much it and the speedo are off.

U.K MPG.. 4.545(?) litres. I don't know wot a U.S gallon is TBH!

I'm thinking of going TDI later on. ATM I'm running a mechanical pump set up. It can all be adjusted with a 10mm spanner and a screwdriver. Only 1 wire to run it...simple!

Apparently people are getting 50-55mpg when this engine is in a car...not bad for a 25yr old engine!

If I go TDI I will have to get higher ratio gears as it doesnt rev. The engine I have ATM spins up to 6000rpm!

I want power, but economy is a big factor for me also. I cant wait to see what my new mods do.

Ive been looking at propane injection....anyone have any experience of this?

Welcome! Suggest you pose the propane question in another section.

Check out the search feature upper left.

After your swap, the rest should be easier! Reduce mirror size. Get an airdam going,
rear wheel skirts, under body side skirts might do A LOT for you!

Under body pan certainly couldn't hurt.

But nothing will work as well as adjusting the nut behind the wheel.

Gentle finesse, smoooooooooothness, in your driving will be key!
