Hello I just created this account! I currently drive a 1999 toyota corolla with 367,000ish miles. I bought it from a family member in december 2023 with 350,xxx miles. I was driving a dodge dakota until it got rear ended last december. I am currently rebuilding the dakota and hope to get it finished later this year.

Which y2k bug are your referencing? A New Beetle?

Actually it is not referencing to a car at all. In high school i took a web design class that was very basic and i didn't learn how to design a modern website. Its actually referring to my website being out of date because i don't know how to do it any other way and i never cared enough to learn. Y2kbug meaning my website is not y2k compliant. I created an account here to try and learn more about operating and modifying my cars to get better mpg. And as a way to better track and organize my fuel mileage.

The part of your story that sticks out to me is that a family member sold you a two-and-a-half decade old car to you, rather than give it you you outright.

That car has been around since just after I started driving.

The real Y2K is at 2038:

"Can't manage what you don't measure." The three general areas for improvement are aerodynamics, drivetrain and a driver that anticipates what's down the road.

A free car would be nice but i really cant complain the car has been reliable. Its only let me down once when the upper radiator hose busted while driving during work. I easily found a new hose and fixed it and didn't get behind in work. It lets me wait until the weekend for me to fix stuff on it.

Yeah im curious to see what happens in 2038. Hopefully i can keep my 32bit computer going long enough to see for myself. I hope it dont cause some vintage websites to die.

I bet i could get better gas mileage if i looked ahead more at changing traffic lights and took off my rear view mirror. That is something i have been trying to work on since i bought my dodge truck. I let off the gas and it seems to coast forever.

On the corolla: I'm thinking on getting taller tires to try and lower rpm on the expessway. But im not looking forward to an inaccurate speedometer. How affective are grill blocks and warm air intake? I have been reading about them and was thinking of doing that on my car.

Considering the Corolla took over that role which used to be of the VW Beetle, as the benchmark of compacts, referencing a Corolla as Y2K Bug wouldn't seem so unaccurate at all :D
