Hello from Alaska
Hey everyone,
This looks like an awesome site and forum. I've learned a ton already and been talking my wife's head off about the little things I am doing now to save fuel. It's turned into a game for me. Right now I have an old Ram with the inline 6 diesel, got 19.3 mpg last tank, hoping to do better now. But what I am really excited about is we're moving soon to the Cincinnati area and I'll be selling the truck and hunting for like a 2000-2003 Jetta TDI. I can't wait to get the scangauge and get going! Scott |
Welcome aboard. I lived in Alaska's SC banana belt for 6 years from 1977-1983. Owned a Rabbit diesel & an '84 Corolla diesel briefly. Looking forward to seeing what you can do with a Jetta TDI.

That always looked like a nice part of the state.
Also forgot to add we'll be doing the 3700 mile trip down this summer in our 2011 Sienna that has a nice FE instrumentation setup already. I will definitely be logging that trip as well. |
Glad to have you!

Welcome! Believe it or not, we've got quite a Cummins owners here--probably almost 10 now. If you're still going to have the truck for a while, go ahead and join Team Cummins. When are you planning on doing the move?

Hi Dan,
I saw the team Cummins and had been reading about all your modifications, very interesting. I've always been a Cummins fan, I had a 24V for a couple years, switched to a deleted 6.7 that was great but not being able to meet emissions testing lead to me selling that truck (but boy do I miss that truck) and now I have the old beast, the 244k and counting 12 valve. I will be selling it here in a few days though as it's a rusty truck with paint issues and I figure it's best just being left here in Alaska. We depart for the long drive in only 2 weeks. That being said I am going to have a commute and will be aiming for a 2000-2003 TDI for that, but think it's inevitable that I will end up with something Cummins powered later on. Maybe even some kind of 1/2 ton with a 4BT conversion. |
Have a safe trip coming outside. We drove up the Alcan from Denver before it was paved. On the return trip, we drove to Haines & took the ferry outside. Six winters in the Banana Belt, and the temps never dropped below -18.
