Hello All
Hello!,
I'm Bow (pronounced like "Bow and arrow", not the command) and I'm in Houston, TX. I just stumbled on that fourm that other day and decided to join. I live in Houston, TX and Commute about 100 miles round trip a day, so I have an interest in saving some fuel. My daily driver vehicle is a 1998 Nissan Frontier (2.4L Inline-4, 5 speed manual).. it is currently at 260,000 miles. I currently get around 20 mpg with mixed driving conditions and running it on E40 fuel. I was wondering where the best place is to get a Scangauge II, (good price/quick shipping). Great site, I look forward to digging into it more. |
ScanGauge MPG gauge: improve your fuel economy - EcoModder.com
Welcome to EM! If you're seriously looking for a SGII, consider using the above link and purchasing directly from EM? Welcome again, and Happy Motoring! |
Welcome to EM!
Topher is correct, if you order through us (soonish) I should be able to have it ready to catch the shipment that is leaving today. |
Welcome to the site Bow.
EcoModder just started selling scangauges. You can get them here. The price is actually very good. I just had my car broken into not too long ago and my SG was stolen. Almost every other place on the internet was selling them for $160 + shipping. Alternatively, you might find a used one on ebay going for a bit less if you wait around long enough. Now, my turn to question. E40 fuel eh? I sense a story behind that. Do share. :) |
Thanks for the welcomes, gents

I have a couple questions... What is the Red Star/Blue Star Membership? How do you ship them? USPS? UPS? |
Basically it's a way to show support for the site that also removes advertising.
We ship USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation. |
Outstanding, thanks for the info..
. You have an order sir! |
And thanks to you! Looks like you have an interesting job, by the way
|
My job is pretty cool.. at least for about another year... Then I'll be looking.
I look forward to getting the Scangauge, it will let me keep a better eye on the truck. |
You drive a truck?? Blasphemy!!
(Kidding). What kind of truck is it? Have you considered adding a fuel log entry? (I know, you've only been here for 5 minutes and we're badgering you...) :P |
By the way, what's hasiriya mean?

I started experimenting with E85 fuel mixes for a bit more power and cleaner emissions. The 240SX is 100% converted and runs on E85. My truck, which I drive daily, is running a mix of E40 (40% Ethanol/60% 87 Octane), which is made by dumping about 6 gallons of E85, and 9 gallons of 87 octane. This gives you 93 octane fuel. The E85 burns a bit slower than normal gas, which helps boost the torque range, as my truck is a bit sluggish without it. My fuel economy is only about 1-2 mpg lower than with straight gasoline. Well, I have a sports car, and the wife has a 1999.5 Nissan Pathfinder SE, so we needed a new vehicle, as the wife thought my 240SX was getting "old" with 218,000 miles on it... So I figure we need a pickup truck... At least it isn't a V6 and automatic... Quote:
Hashiriya is a Japanese term for a street racer. The real hashiriya were know for racing at times of the night when the roads were empty, so that their actions didn't endanger or involve anyone else (however, that type of respect/behavior doesn't exist today) |
Souuuuu ka. I wondered why it wasn't in my dictionary.
|
Hai!
|
Welcome, Bow.
Aside from tweaking the nut behind the wheel with the MPG feedback, any additional plans to improve the truck's efficiency? |
I had a friend named Beau, and he drives the exact same car as you lol.
I think he gets 17 though, so good job on that. |

I am thinking about the grill block, and a Aerocap or Tonneau Cover to close up the box... for starters... Quote:

Good stuff. Hope you document the projects as you go.
|
Sure will.. I'll take a lot of photos.
I'm a part owner over at TEXAS NISSANS FORUMS, we try to keep it very tech oriented and like write-ups of repairs/mods with a lot of photos.. If I do anything to the truck of interest to you gents, I'll document it. |

In your opinion, would the Nissan 3.7L V6 work well in trucking applications? |
What type of trucking applications are you talking about?
Towing/Hauling? The VQ37 is a pretty strong motor, and runs a VVEL (variable valve timing) setup for a broader torque curve and better throttle response. But at the moment, Nissan/Infiniti is only using it in the Sport/Touring/Crossover SUV lineup (370Z, G37, M37, EX37, FX37). But given the fact it makes 350 @ 7,000 RPM and 276 lb/ft @ 5,200 RPM in the NISMO 370Z version of the engine, it seems like it would do well. |

The VVEL should produce some good HP numbers on the highway for trucks. Who knows, maybe they will put in a few trucks next year? |
I do not know if they will go with the 3.7L in the trucks.
The First Generation Frontier used a 3.3 lither V6, and the current models us a 4.0L. The current Frontiers are rated at a Towing capacity: 6500 lb with the 4.0 L. The VQ40DE, is the standard engine, produces a 265 hp and 284 lb/ft of torque. |

Oh my how does it sound? Does it come in a manual? Geez... the racing blood is pumping again! :D |
Nah, I think The Truck 4 liter is different that the 3.7.
