So I have been lurking here for a long time and Just got a car worthy of some ecomods. I picked up a 99 saturn sc2 with a 5 speed manual that had been in a rear end collision for 800 bucks. My chevy 1500 4x4 was my daily driver prior to this car. I am in the national guard and my unit is 220 miles away. So around 500 miles of driving one weekend a month is quite costly in that truck. I have made some modifications to the car and I would like some constructive criticism as to things that could be improved. I have a WAI, fully belly pan, coroplast smooth wheel covers, fender skirts and a front air dam. the front end looks kind of goofy because of the accident it was in but I tried to button it up as best as i could. My best highway run thus far has been 47.5 mpg average over a 40 mile trip A-B-A. I am looking for a 5th gear to swap out and the Ecorod will need some new tires. Right now its got 195/60/r15 I would like to swap to some skinnys that have a higher pressure rating than 35 psi. My goal is to have a solid 50 mpg highway car.

Welcome!

Do you have and testing results for your mods? I am allays looking for more data for our wiki.

scottoriou 05-21-2011 12:21 AM

sorry, but no I dont have any real scientific tests for each mod. I wish I would have done testing but I just got the car and had a few free days so I just did all the modifications. So I cant really even tell you what I was getting stock. I ran the scangauge the whole way home when I bought the car and it read 33 the whole way home but it also was pouring rain the whole time so I dont even have a good baseline.

Welcome to ecomodder !

You've gone pretty far right away

Some black paint would clean up the looks of the car.
Well, at least from a distance.

everyone I see says the same thing. if it was painted black it wouldnt look so bad. I have always been a function over form guy and if it does its job then it looks good enough to me. I have some paint that i intended to paint it with but we'll see if I take everything back off to paint it.

Great job, I like the foam around the headlights, it looks ... interesting. I like it.

A boattail would bring you up to your goal and maybe past it.

scottoriou 05-21-2011 08:45 AM

I am trying to figure out how exactly I want to do a boattail. I dont really want to put a lot of holes in the car and I would like to still have access to my trunk.

Love the fender skirts, scottoriou. Love the commute, too- back when I was in I had 100 miles each way. That doesn't seem so far now.

is the foam holding the headlights in??
