Welcome to the site.
What kind of mileage are you getting in your ranger right now? |
Not quite sure at the moment. fueleconomy.gov lists it as 15 city, 21 highway, 17 combined. I keep records of my milage and gas so I was just going to look up the best way to calculate my actual milage. I tend to leave a little late and rush but thats easily fixed. Just don't do it. I use cruise control on the freeway, but I'm going to try just keeping it at a stead speed myself. Anything else I could do is always appreciated. Thanks!

I was hoping I could find another way to calculate mpg other than filling, since Im kinda broke, filling $20 at most. Also my ranger had a bad gas filler neck hose, common in my truck i guess. A full tank fill would result in spillage, not at all what i want. It might also contribute to leaking of fumes. I read an article about a guy who had to have his gas tank pressure tested and failed due to a bad filler neck. Fortunately I found the part cheap on Ebay. I might just be able to get that done soon.

Well, if you have a leak in your filler neck, you're loosing gas to evaporation. I'd highly suggest getting a new one.
The best tried and true way is to fill it up every time and do the hand calculations. There are computer readouts that are pretty good at getting close, but they are rarely dead on. |

Even if you can't fill the tank, you can guesstimate your fuel consumption rate if you have enough data. You might never know exactly how much gas is in there, but if it's been 2400mi since your last fillup and you've put in 120gal since then, well, you've burned between 120-140gal, right? Basically, you'd have to guess how much fuel is in the tank right now to get a reading of how much has been burned. |
Welcome to ecomodder! You can calculate your milage by divinding
the distance travled by amount of gas used. |
do you plan to calculate the mileage for all three driving conditions?
