Hello Everyone
Hello,
I'm new to ecomodder although I've been reading it and similar sites for quite some time. I am curious, has anyone tried using thicker oil? it would seem to make sense in reducing engine friction. I've had fairly good success in adding acetone to my gas tank. I've been doing this for over a year with no ill effects. After researching as well I'm convinced it will not harm your fuel system in such small amounts. I've recently begun adding Marvel Mystery Oil as well, seems to be doing well but i have no hard numbers yet. I normally run 5w-30 mobile 1 but i would like to test 10w-30 any Insight? Thanks Jake |
Welcome to EM. 10w would be a thicker oil than your current 5w. Switching would actually hurt FE

I agree! Stick with the 5W30 oil for the best fuel economy.

Hi Jake -
I think you'll find that most people on EM use mods that have solid scientific support. Acetone fails miserably in that regard. Auto manufacturers have been striving to reduce the oil weight they can run in their engines to improve fuel economy. Honda specified 0w20 for the Insight hybrid - the most efficient car available in the US. That was no coincidence. Welcome to the site. |
Hey I know everyone loves some government organization to back them up to the T...check this:

Excellent, thanks for all your input. good to know. i know many people have had many different results with acetone. perhaps i'm a little to ready to jump the gun.
also where is everyone getting plastic for wheel skirts and belly pans? the coroplast at lowes seemed really wimpy. maybe something a little more rigid and thinner. thanks jake |
