Hello from Indiana

I'm excited to be apart of this forum and learn as much as I can. My wife and I are looking at being missionaries in the next couples years so we will travel the country a bit. In th past I had a 85 vw Jetta diesel 1.6 not turbo and averaged. 50mpg then we had a 06 Aveo and the best we ever did was 46 with allot of hills on a all highway trip but usually did 38. My new CHALLENGE is an 01 grand cherokee 4x4 4.0 I6. I know it's no hybrid but I hate the jeep forums that the answer is "it's a jeep deal with it" I know that's true to an extent but I'm not going to take just that. My best so far over the road was 23mpg and in town were doing 10-12 (ALLOT of lights ALLOT) but on the road it's usually 20-21. So I'm am here to learn!!!! Poor it on me and anything you can think of. I know it will take time and money and I am patient. Great to be here!

Welcome. The easiest thing to increase you MPG would be something more efficient. Take a look at 100+ Hypermiling Tips if you haven't already. A small change in MPG will represent quite a few dollars in your pocket over time.

You may find many spots to take a few pounds away, as long as you'd still feel comfortable to drive it. A next step could include some aeromods and engine tuning (or even an engine swap if you have good mechanic skills).
