Well, some things have changed in my life, and now is the time to place a heavy focus on my own car.

I introduce, "Ho-Sook" - a 2010 Hyundai Accent 3-door. It's a base model automatic, not even a radio. Weighs in on the scales at 2460 with a full tank of gas, not too shabby. But... she only nets maybe 30 MPG average.

I know a small car with a 1.6 and a OD lockup that engages at as low as 30 MPH can do better. Hell, the Aerostar doing highway ventures @ 55 did 27. Any ideas?

Sounds like you're a little fuzzy on actual numbers. What's are the car's EPA ratings?

Step 1 is to start a fuel log (and keep it updated, religiously).

Step 2 is to get a fuel consumption gauge.

(You can't manage what you don't measure!)

Thanks! I'm not too familiar with this forum's layout, so every little bit helps

I hope my goal is not too optimistic. 45S/50W MPG without a full-on boattail or questionable/extreme driving practices.

I have my first 'mod' planned to purchase later today: A ScanGauge II.

also when logging your fuel consumption, try to log what kind of trips you did on each tank because the same car will get very different numbers when driven, for example, to work and back one tank and the next tank on a long highway trip.

with better/smarter driving you should be getting close to 40mpg but even with mods it's gonna be hard to reach 50 if you're not willing to change your driving style

It's already comforting to know the car has decel cutoff and where/when it begins.

Almost all of my driving is commuting, I do maybe 2 long road trips a year, if that.

If I can maintain a 35/40MPG baseline, I know I can hit 45/50 through modifications.

I also understand winter fuel doesn't produce as much MPG as summer fuel, though I don't know why?
