New guy doing an EV conversion

Hello all,

Inspired by ForkenSwift and Ben Nelson, a few years ago I decided to try my hand at a low budget EV conversion. Progress has been slow. It's been a "side of my desk"/carport sort of project that I've worked on now and then, but it now seems to be picking up momentum. I now have a Hitachi 4100 forklift motor mounted and bolted up (clutchless) in my 95 VW Cabrio. I'm planning on going with an open ReVolt Controller and I'm on ecomodder to learn more about them before I click the purchase button. I'm just starting to look around on the site. Any tips or suggestions in any way related to ReVolt controllers are welcomed.

Thanks!

Drew

Welcome to the site Drew. We'd love to see some pics of the VW.

Make sure to get the correct speed controller for your project. My first clutchless project was dangerous since the motor wouldn't free spin when the throttle was let up, it would drag to 0 mph in about 1 second. Luckily I found this out while only going about 2 mph. A place I buy a lot of parts for is called Electric Motorsport in Oakland Ca. they have some cool kits for lazy people like me. I don't work there or anything, just a place I buy from a lot.

Thanks Daox. I created an album and put three pics on it. Am I able to link the pics to this thread?

Thanks I'll look out for that issue as I plan my next steps. Thanks also for the tip on Electric Motorsport.

Belated welcome!

Always happy to read that the ForkenSwift has inspired another conversion (especially since it is now R.I.P.).

I love the green motor paint. The FS had the same colour scheme.
