Hello from New Jersey, another HF owner here...

Hello all! My name is Stephen and I'm from south Jersey. I recently purchased a 1991 Honda CRX HF and have begun the quest for maximum MPG.

When purchased the car was severly neglected and had 183k miles on it. I pulled the transmission and installed new input shaft bearings, as they were toast. I did a complete tuneup, new front wheel bearings, caliper, rotors, ball joints, tie rod ends, etc. The car was 100% stock but had some ugly aftermarket 15" wheels on it with wide rubber. I pulled them immediately and put on some 14" integra steelies my father had laying around.

More recently I did the rear brakes (drums, shoes, wheel cylinders) and rear wheel bearings. I also picked up a set of VX wheels and tires and installed them. Prior to this the car was getting high 40's to low 50's. We'll see how it does afterwards...

I am planning on a VX engine swap soon. I ran across a bloak with one complete D15Z1, a spare head, two P07 49 state ECUs, a spare intake manifold, two widebands, the VX black box, and a whole lot of other parts. I picked up the whole lot of it and will begin prepping the motor for install this winter.

Some background on me... I'm a 29 year old undergrad Mechanical Engineer graduate Systems Engineer. Married, first baby on the way, and a "motorhead, gearhead, greasemonkey" (insert inadequate jargon here) who spends a lot of time wrenching on cars. I have done more motor swaps that I can count, and built a number of very fast fuel guzzling sports cars. I'm excited to use some of my mechanical knowledge to build something as fuel efficient as possible.

My commute right now is 23mi each way, on rural backroads with 55MPH speed limits. I hit 5 traffic lights along the way. I'm moving in two months and my commute will jump to 35miles each way with the same amount of lights. I am hoping that post VX conversion I can still get back and forth to work on one gallon of gas, we will see!

Welcome to the site. Thats a nice project car you have there. The VX swap is a great one to put in.

It's funny, I never saw myself being interested in any of this stuff. I recently sold my Supercharged 07 Tundra which got a terrible 13-15MPG. I'm saving hundreds upon hundred of dollars a month on gas, not to mention the hundreds on the car payment too. Makes affording the mods for this little beater quite easy.

Thanks for the welcome!
