Hello Normandy Park Washington (Seattle area)

I just registered as a user today and thought I should introduce myself. I live near Seattle WA, drive a 96 civic HX and enjoy backpacking, cycling, hunting, fishing and building stuff. Interested in improving the MPG on my HX. Thought about replacing the sideview mirrors with cameras and digital display, reducing the electrical demand and therefore the horsepower necessary to generate power. I.e. enable a vent mode on the climate control to allow mild airflow without fan motor, LED lighting wherever practical. Taller gears for efficiency a higher speed. LRR tires & lightweight wheels. Just bought new tires and lost a couple MPG, grrr.

Anyone else try some of these ideas.

Welcome to the forum.

People have done those mods (except maybe the vent one -- does your car not already have a vent setting?)

Bummer about the new tires dropping MPG. That's normal, even if you stick to the same tire (deeper tread = more losses).

I'd start by adding instrumentation if you haven't already. Driving style has the single biggest impact on consumption, and feedback is the way to fine-tune it.

Since you've got the HX, you really need an MPGuino for accuracy. (OBD-II tools don't properly calculate fuel consumption when you're in lean burn mode, but the MPGuino does.)

Thanks, I'll check it out.
