hello from Onario Canada. (2007 Rondo)
 

hello all from Onario Canada. I drive (recently acquired) a 2007 Kia Rondo.
I really enjoy the car. Suits all my needs but just wish it got better mileage than my old Ford Focus...which put me onto the interweb looking for ideas.
In my search I came across this group of "no good nicks"...all signs pointed to a life of danger and to steer clear...so I joined.
I am learning and hopefully at some point be good enough to learn the secret hand shake. There is a secret handshake...isn't there?

What engine/transmission combo does your Rondo have in it? and what kind of gas mileage are you getting?

I have the 2.4L with automatic.
Honestly I haven’t even gauged my mileage yet. Have not had it long enough or the time. Poor excuse I know. Hoping to top up the tank this weekend and start fresh Monday with my regular routine.

Sorry dogman but mpg #’s for this car is about 10l/100kms. I love this car with all the room but I have heard that a lot of the poor mpg is from the brakes.my want to rese@rch that because it can’t be all down to aerodynamics. I will be following your post to see how your doing. There’s lots of good info on this site to bring your mpg up.

True there is some inherent brake drag in the design, but I think most of the poor mileage is a combination of weight, poor gearing and engine management. Short tripping in town is usually a lost cause. Occasionally I can get 8l/100km on a short trip ( best was about 7.5) but usually 9-11L/100km and worse in winter. Highway I'll get 7-8l/100. I've got 6.5 before, but only if I keep my speed down and drive very carefully. Fuel monitoring like a Scangauge is a must as the throttle is very touchy. I've owned mine 11 years and it is not an easy car to hypermile, but it can be done.

Quite hard to get a miracle with that setup, even though at least on highway it may fare better than the 2.0L fitted to them in my country (some stupid tax structure tied to the displacement is enforced here).

But anyway, do you use it more frequently in heavy urban traffic or on highway?
