Hello from Surrey, BC

Hi, I recently moved from biking distance to work to a 96km round trip. :( I just inherited a 1991 Honda Civic (autotragic) and it's getting around 40 MPG so far. I'm pretty happy with this already, but looking forward to trying some mods out when I'm fully moved into my new place.

I've been looking into instruments and an MPGuino would be cool, but I'm curious if y'all think it would be worth it for an automatic? Maybe a vacuum gauge would be better? Maybe both? :D

If you're traveling that far its likely at higher speeds. Higher speeds mean aeromods are going to be your friend big time.

BTW, welcome to the site! 40 mpg is a great start, nice job.

Yeah, the commute is 77% highway driving. Thanks Daox, I'll focus on aeromods. I'm planning on doing wheel covers, rear skirts, grill block, some sort of airdam and hopefully a kammback if I can figure something out.

Belated welcome!

Too bad about the switch from biking. Was it a case of "keep driving away from the city until you can afford property?"

I'm a big advocate for instant/resettable fuel economy instrumentation. It makes the task more engaging/fun. People who don't have it tend to underestimate just how much it can help.

Unfortunately yes, that is exactly what happened. But hey, now I know what ecomodding is, and I have a garage to do ecomods in. :D

I would love to get an MPGuino but I really have no idea how to install it and that seems to be the only option for my 91 civic.

MetroMPG 08-30-2016 03:36 PM

I'd be surprised if someone hasn't already done an installation in that drivetrain. You might want to poke around the MPGuino subforum or check the wiki section.

OH.. wait a minute. Is your car fuel injected or carbureted? MPGuino needs fuel injection.

homeiss 08-30-2016 03:40 PM

It's injected. I will look around and see if I can find any info. Thanks.

Turns out 88-91 civics have DPFI which makes MPGuino readings incorrect. Gasoline Fumes describes it in more detail here.

Oh well, guess I'll just get a vac gauge and do some aeromods.
