HELP: Any HVAC Experts?
I have a bit of a problem...
My heat-pump compressor won't activate (it's temperate enough this weekend to open the windows, but a test of the system revealed some trouble). Symptoms:
What I've checked:
We've had some pretty bad storms with lots of lightning lately. We usually either get struck nearby, or take a surge from a strike. My guess is a bad relay somewhere, which is beyond my repair. Any thoughts? Someone will have to come out Monday if I can get it fixed. Thanks... -RH77 |
Nevermind
Nevermind. It just started working again
Maybe there's a loose connection, or it's temp related. RH77 |
I don't know if you get fire ants up there, but we have 'em in Texas and they love relays. They get inside and die, then when the T-stat calls for cooling the contacts can't make and compressor won't kick in.Fun! Compressed air will purge out the dead bodies and restore operation. It's a lone-star thing!

Sorry, this thread kinda merged with another and I forgot to update it...
The system just started working on its own the next day... But, about a month later, lightning blew out the capacitor and a technician replaced it (after a few uncomfortable nights -- of course it happened on a Friday ) Now the system is running great. No Fire Ants up here, thankfully  RH777 |
