Help Me Mod my 2014 Jeep Compass 4x4 for mileage

Ok, I know I'm pretty limited on my Jeep, but what can I do to get better MPGs out of it ?

Gas, 2.4L, new for 2014 (6) Speed automatic.

My commute is (58) miles both ways. About 95% Highway... flat for the most part here in SW Ohio.

It's been getting around (27) MPG Avg as of late. Not real bad for a small SUV 4x4, but I would like it to get better.

I do have the airbox snorkel off which actually did help a scoch. I actually had to remove it to install aftermarket horns. Extremely limited in under hood space.

What say you ?

TIA

Tire pressure is currently (34) psi.... May increase it to (40) psi here soon.

I've also been toying with the idea of a small air dam extended off the front lip and perhaps blocking off the grill somewhat. ??

I'm not sure how effective those mods would be.... ??

Those have pretty massive wheel gaps dont they? Might be able to make some kind of cover or fill on the gaps with something that would give if the tire hits it. Maybe that bristle material that rv's use as mudflaps.

When the time comes, go for a set of good LRR tires. Don't do it now, you won't get paid back for swapping tires that still have life left.

There are LRRs out there that have decent snow and ice ratings too.

I was thinking that as well.

Perhaps a narrower, higher profile tire as well.

Currently has 225/50-18s. Maybe 215/60-18s ? Gotta crunch the numbers.

Interesting idea.

Wheel gaps are gigantic, and the extra driveline greeblies underneath just muddy the aero waters more. A quick-and-dirty air dam willl show you if there are dividends to be earned by cleaning up the underside.

With all that high speed travel, any aeromod will show gains. Some easy ones are air dam, grill block, and side view mirror delete.

Start immediately with the Scangauge/Ultragauge, and tire pressures... Then the grill block and air dam with all that highway miles should show some improvement. If you need to replace tires then bump up the size of tire when you have to replace them.

Of course your gauges should be able to help you adjust the loose nut between the seat and the controls... That is where you will find the biggest gains. :-)
