Help with XFi vs. VX/HX

Alright, so I took the plunge [read more here] and now I have an XFi camshaft, and tentative plans to get a newer or non-rusty older suzukiclone. I also have an EV conversion in the works, so if that comes out successfully I'll seldom drive around town with an ICE car. If I want to kick some ass on the highway, would it be cheaper to continue with the suzukiclone, or try to find a lean burn engine (or import one like SVO). Should I drive back to ohio and rip out the XFi engine and drivetrain and slap them into a non rusty shell that will most likely occupy a perfectly good running engine? I don't see too many suzukiclone shells on CL, or anywhere for that matter. I've seen 2 - one was a very good price and considerably less expensive than a full running car, the other was too pricey for just a shell. I don't care about time - I like the idea of tinkering, I care about how much it will cost. How much better are VXs than HXs? In general it seems like all the honda stuff is harder to come by than suzukiclone stuff, but lean burn will spank everything on the highway, which is all I'll need. What will give me the biggest spank for the buck? My intuition leans toward suzukiclones because they're everywhere, and honda stuff isn't.

what are you talking about, you can buy honda parts at walmart.. almost..

It's up to you. I prefer the Suzukiclones myself. An XFi engine is gonna be worth big bucks as the price of fuel keeps climbing.

My position has always been: if you're building a car that will be used mostly sub/urban driving, the Suzukiclones will kick Honda's butt, particularly if you're open to using pulse & glide.

Cruising on the open road however, a lean burn VX will dominate.

Unless of course you are going to aeromod the @#(*$ out of the Suzukiclone.

But then you could do the same thing to the Honda VX-engined whatever and be that much more efficient. It appears basjoos is leaning towards putting a VX motor into the Aerocivic, at which point it will be so ridiculously efficient on the highway that his gas gauge will move backwards, and he will have to periodically drain stale fuel from his tank.

But Mullet is right: XFi drivetrains and Metros are going to return to silly prices when the price of oil goes through the roof again.

ROFL! I almost disturbed my co-workers laughing so hard.

The only thing better would be an aerometro with a lean burn...THAT would be an awesome project. It'd probably put oil back into the ground, make dinosaurs come to life again!

It would be an interesting world to trade our oil problems for dinosaurs.
But, I'm game. Lets do it!!!:D
