...I'm waiting to see the diesel drag car races!

Nice find..
I was kind of surprised when the article said "The F-250’s drivetrain and transmission were stock." At that speed I would have thought those woulda had some upgrades also. |

However, (as is often the case) the article doesn't seem very well written. One thing to keep in mind is that you make two passes to set a record and your time is averaged. They set the B/DT record at 169.331mph (beating a previous 166.850). This requires diesel fuel. To the best of my knowledge, there is no biodiesel class, so I tried to find what class they ran and can't find any additional records set by them on the SCTA-BNI web page. I'm guessing their second "record" is some unofficial record somewhere that they did on a timed only run to use for bragging rights for Ford. That's still pretty impressive, but not up to the hype of that article. |
On a related note, I went a showing of the Documentary about Ab Jenkins, who pioneered Salt Flats racing. His car is shown below with the link for the movie trailer. Great show about the history of speed racing!

Haha stock
"The most remarkable thing about the F-250’s speed is that it the truck remains mostly stock. Ford says that it... only installed a high pressure fuel pump, new fuel injectors, new turbos, and modified the compression ratio... aerodynamic fairings for the front bumper, and the obligatory salt flat moon-dish wheels. The F-250’s drivetrain and transmission were stock." That is in no way stock, "Drivetrain may refer to: Powertrain, the group of components in a motor vehicle that generate power and deliver it to the road surface" So how is changing everything other than the block and heads make it stock? |
Now now don't forget the Skoda million dollar outfit and the stock engine brag for 250+ I believe.

Perhaps dad and I hold the record there for distance driven on homemade fuel in his 97 F250? 3500 mi.
