Herrod Type Wing for Hatch/Trunk

Weve all seen the new beetle make pretty good gains with this

So why dont more people use it?

Ive been thinking about it for my hatch for better visibility.

In all of those applications you've pictured, they're using it to control speed-wobble by creating downforce.

In the application you're looking for, it won't do much for aero, but it will help keep dust off your rear window, and might shade it in the early afternoon.

It works so well on the New Beetle because of the design of the car.. it creates a fake "slope" between the edge of the spoiler and the upper (trailing) edge of the roof, which approximates a better angle for aero than what was available by the car's design. In your case, not so much, unless you use it like a Kamm-Extension.

Rats, I really like those spoilers that they frequently use at the salt flats. They look cool. If it's mostly downforce, then :( .

I intend to use something similar to this for my Civic. Basically extending my kammback but also adjustable for downforce at the track. One angle for aero, the other for downforce. Aluminiumumum.

It can also be used to calm down the seperation bubble which will knock a couple of counts off the cd. Coupled with dropping the rear ride height a little is when I've had my best luck. The spare wheel however makes it hard to know with out a tuft test.

Looking at it, I would have thought it might move the wake
a little further back perhaps reducing drag (albeit slightly)

that way theres no turbulence around the 5th wheel

Which Island are you on? I was in Kauai just last week.

The reason I as is if the avg speed is fairly low, it will take many counts of drag reduction to make a hill of beans.

Oahu

People go 60+ mph on the frwy all the time

Kauai is super slow, something like max 45 everywhere
