I figured I would introduce myself here. I've got a couple of fuel suckers, but the car I'm most interested in trying to break the 30mpg mark is my 1990 Buick Lesabre. It's such a nice car, and it only has 84k miles on it, so I want to keep outward mods to a minimum. I've found that it has gotten its best mileage at about 72 mph with the majority of the driving being done on the interstate. Last tank like that, we got 29.5 mpg.

I know, you're think this is another old guy looking to get more mileage out of his grandpa sled, but I'm actually only 31 and I'm big into performance cars and drag racing. But for this car, it needs to last me a long time as I'm trying to pay off some debt and its a comfy ride that gets good mileage and has very little road noise.

That was a hard combo to find, but I think I've got the perfect ride for it.

My plans are to install a vacuum gauge to keep an eye on mileage and perhaps an IAT mod to give it some more advance.

Any ideas specific to this car?

Pumping up the tires to the max sidewall or even over inflating them a bit will get you a boost to the mileage if you haven't done it already.

Are those mud flaps? Losing those will help as well, if possible.

Welcome jsatter, I have an unmodified Honda S2000 that I have gotten over 36.5mpg with. Just using the driving techniques found on this site. The easiest way to saving gas is to modify your driving style.

I can see why you want to keep it pristine. Would you be amenable to putting the wheelcovers in storage and installing some pizza pans? Alternatively, I think there are some OEM wheelcovers you could get for it that are pretty aero already.

Yeah, I could totally do that. I think Oldsmobile had a pizza pan wheel cover that would work. I'm going to up the pressure tonight and see if that makes any difference. I think those 14's are rated to like 48 psi.
