Hey Everyone

Hey everyone,

Been kind of a lurker for a long time, and finally got around to signing up. I'm Jon, I'm a CFO at an oil field health and safety company. It takes quite a bit of time, but I enjoy tinkering with some older cars when I have the time.

I had avoided signing up before, because it seemed like I had a hopeless cause for mileage, a 05 Mercedes E500 4 matic. It was a pig, and I was lucky to get over 21 MPG on the freeway, and 17 in town. She is gone, however, being replaced with a 14 Honda CR-Z. Even with me doing a very non-eco mod, and giving her 18s and sticky tires, she still rewards me with a 40 MPG average, and the ability to be a great little canyon carver.

Anyway, time to look around, as a member. :)

Welcome to the site. 40 mpg isn't bad at all. How do you like the CRZ otherwise?

Man, I thought real hard about a manual CR-Z but ended up getting a manual Gen-1 Insight and a new car for my wife instead.

Welcome to the site! 40 mpg out of a CVT is a pretty good start!

I love it. The car is quite fun stock, but just feels like it wants some twisties. The summer tires amplify that, and remind me that some stiffer sway bars would really make it fun.

The only gripes would be meh brakes, (my Mercedes had excellent brakes), cheap carpet and no leather option. Brakes can be upgraded with RSX type S parts. Haven't looked for better carpet or leather though.

I see more CRXs than CRZs, so a manual one would most likely be made from unobtanium. I have read that they can get into the 50 MPG area, where it's almost impossible for the CVT to accomplish that same goal.
