Hey everyone!
Hello everyone, my name is Matt and I'm 17 years old. I live in Illinois, and my daily driver is a 1998 Ford Mustang with a 3.8L V6 engine and automatic transmission. I used to be the type of guy who was big into going fast when I first got my licence, but now that I've got my 1991 Ford Probe GT turbo that I can go fast in when ever I want, I've decided that I want to get the most mpg out of my 98 stang as I can with my budget.
Now I've been kinda reading on here about some of the stuff people are doing to their car's. Well since I've already modified my mustang a little bit, I don't really know what to do to it. Like I've got a cold air intake, bigger throttle body, and dual exhaust. So can anyone tell me some stuff that would help me right off the bat. |
Welcome, Boosdprobe91!
Your biggest gains will be made by "tightening the nut behind the wheel" as is often said around here. Click on the "100+ Hypermiling Tips" link above. You won't use all of them, but they will get you thinking along the lines of how you need to operate a car to be the most efficient. The second thing to do is to get a Scangauge II. It'll work in your Mustang, since it is OBD-II, (but not the Probe, due to it being pre-OBD-II). The Scangauge will quickly teach you how to drive more efficiently with its instantaneous feedback. |
Yep, definitely pick up a scangauge II. Manual transmission swap?

Will the Mustang actually be more fuel-efficient than the Probe? Seems to me like the Probe would be a better daily driver and the Mustang a better toy!
Either way, welcome. I'm new around here too :) |

Welcome to EM! I have the same question as AJI. Is the Ford Probe going to be "maxxed out" for racing or something? Using the new handy-dandy garage search engine I found some Mustangs for you to compare to : http://ecomodder.com/forum/attachmen...1&d=1241587478 CarloSW2 . |
Welcome to the site Boosdprobe91. Since you do have a fast car already, why not get yourself a nice smaller engined commuter to replace the stang? You can eek some semi-descent mileage out of it I'm sure, but it would be way easier to start with something that gets good mileage to begin with.
