HI

Hi Everyone,
I have a 1987 honda Civic CRX SI 1.5 L Fuel Injected little car. I want to put an HF engine inside of it to boost my fuel economy. Does anyone know if it will work?
Thanks,
Mike

also, I would like to hear any other suggestions to boost MPG. my job demands a whole lotta city driving, so any little bit helps. :)

One of our other members here, SVOboy put a civic VX engine in his and was hitting 60+ mpg. I'd probably recommend going that route.

Daox has a great suggestion re: the VX. But if the HF engine is compatible with your generation civic then you might do that too. You might consider simply a transmission swap instead of the whole engine. Seems much of the FE benefits for these guys is in the gearing.

As for driving tips, consult the 100+ hypermiling tips in the links above. Do whatever appeals to you. Experiment.

Start a fuel economy log here on the site. You'll get a good record of a baseline before you start modding, and you'll be able to track improvements.

Good luck!

Is the HF Compatabable with my SI? How would I know? I'm assuming it is.

These cars were built in the period where Honda started standardizing more of the parts, from what I understand. Unless the HF had a different series engine than your Si (perhaps D-series instead of B-series), it should just bolt up. I have never done this yet. I'm following only what I read here, on Honda forums, in books, and such... But as I understand it, the transmissions within one generation Civic, within the same series engine, are easily swapped. Anyone care to correct or corroborate me?

My CRX SI is a 1st generation. If I find a CRX HF block that is also a 1st generation, within the same series, than I should have no problem? Sounds easy, just need the $$$. :)

but it might be easier just to switch out the tranny siince most of the FE benifits are there . just read that. :)
