Hello

Hey everyone,

I've been hanging around Ecomodder for a while now, and finally got around to making an account. I'm an Aerospace Engineering student at Ohio State, so my interest lies in the Aerodynamics side of things.

I recently got a 2008 Ford Ranger which I have some aeromodding plans for. I also plan on running some CFD simulations on flow around my truck in its stock configuration, with half a flat tonneau cover, a full flat tonneau, a cap and an "Aero-Cap".

I had been thinking about Aerocaps for a while before finding my way here via Autoblog Green's article on Basjoos' Civic, only to find multiple threads about them!

Anyway, here are some pictures first of my truck as is, and second with my early ideas for aeromods. The front end has been enhanced because it was a bit dark to see any details.

Welcome to the site. What kind of mileage are you getting right now? What is your daily commute like? Aero mods are a great way to go for high speed driving, but aren't real useful for city driving as I'm sure you know.

Not sure on current mileage as the truck is still on its first tank of gas. Also my summer commute is still up in the air, as I'm not sure where I will be living yet, but most likely it will be highway travel. If I end up being close enough to where my commute is all city traffic, I also have a 50cc scooter. Hopefully I should have things figured out soon.

It has just always bothered me that cars still get as poor gas mileage as they do. Lack of aerodynamics plays a large part in that. The other part is engine technology. There is so much energy in a gallon of gasoline and the automakers harvest so little of it... I guess we just have to do it ourselves.
