first eco ride (2000 Swift 1.3L 5-spd)

Just wanted to say hi. I'm new here but not new to modding vehicles. So i ended up buying a 2000 suzuki swift 4 cyl 5 speed for $1500. Its gonna be alot better to drive that rather then my 05 duramax. I spent $5300 in diesel last year in 20,xxx miles in that truck. Its now just used for towing my camper.

Driving back and forth to work 38 miles round trip is alittle over 41mpg. Its about 50% city 50% highway.

Welcome. Should save you a few bucks on your fuel bill. Planning any fe (fuel economy) mods? Be sure to take a look at the 100+ Hypermiling tips, good for both the truck and car. Some good advice here about truck and towing fe.

Yes i plan in improving alot on this car. Plans are for 50mpg plus combined, and over 60mpg straight hwy. I've done one test loop all hwy (60 miles and 60mph) and it got 47mpg. Next is gonna be some thin oils in motor and trans. Then some areo mods.

Welcome to the forum. Another member has just got a Swift 1.3 5-speed on the road as well, though he had a few more problems to solve recently:

Hey Shawn,

Nice to see another 4 cylinder Swift on here. I have hit 50 on the hwy. a couple times in my '99, even 51 once. But that was before. See, the engine was "on it's way out" most of the time I've owned it. But now it has a fresh one (only 7000 miles) in it, and I have high hopes. I haven't done any mods on it yet either, so there's even more potential there.

Anyway, I applaud your 60 mpg highway goal and have similar goals. Maybe we have a disadvantage by having 4 cylinders, but I kinda like the idea of having a bit more power on tap if needed. Let's show 'em what can be done with a 4 cylinder Swift!!!

Bill

I'm with you on having the extra power when needed.

Get that engine broke in and start putting up some numbers.

I'll be filling up again in a couple of days, but so far, the ScanGauge is showing a 43 MPG average for this tank. - mixed city & highway.

However, I expect the actual fill-up figures to be a bit different, as there was a fairly big adjustment in the last ScanGauge calibration, some of it I question. (it was the tank that included the mechanic doing the compression test, removing the head to be re-built, then when it got ruined, removing again & having the whole engine replaced.) And then his co-hort kept test driving it & reporting that it would "smoke the tires", etc. So... the mileage on that tank - which resulted in the big ScanGauge adjustment for this tank - may have been - - - - weird.

Oh, it says you have a warm air intake? I've been contemplating that too. How did you do yours?

Ahh, ok.

On mine, I'm trying to decide if I should/could arrange something with a "flapper" valve of some sort so I can adjust the heat "on the fly". You know, have the air come straight off the exhaust manifold until it warms up to a certain temperature, and then adjust the flapper so it doesn't get too hot? Maybe a bit like the cowl flaps on an airplane? Dunno - I might be over-complicating it. - - - I have a tendency to do that sometimes.

Congrats on moving back to the lead of the 4 cylinder Swifts!

Hey, just saw your last fuel log results. Good job - you're now the top 4 cylinder Swift on here!!! Not quite onto the first page of "Top Gasoline Cars MPG" yet, but getting REALLY close!! I'm expecting to be moving up with my next fill-up, too.

4 cylinder Swifts unite!!!
