Hi, new to modding from Indiana!

Hello, I'm a pursuing my degree as an electrical engineer and I drive 100 miles round trip to school on the Indiana toll road. I have a 1992 Lexus LS400 in almost perfect condition. It's got a 4 liter V8 to pull the tank of a car down the road but I get decent mileage out of it and I hope to get even more. Right now in the summer it gets 20mpg town, 21-22 highway. Winter is worse at 19-20mpg highway. Here is a list of what I might do this coming fall semester.

*Vacuum Gauge... I really do have a lead foot right now
*Under Engine cover... I fabricated a stainless steel cover to keep engine heat and snow/salt from the engine.
*Hot Air Intake attachment.. that sucks air after the radiator?
*Inflate tires from 32psi to 38-40?.. IDK I want the ability to dodge highway debris with grip.
*Drive Slower... I use the 5-10mph over posting rule..I'm bad
*Cover Some of the Radiator in the Winter.. Saves gas and a rusted radiator
*Some Engine related maintenance.. PCV leaking.. fuel filter..etc

Right now I have 5w-30 full syn and the 180,000 mile engine loves it. I'm not looking to go balls out on mods, I'm on a really nice budget for school and so 20 mpg gas money is not alarming to me. It's just that I drive 100 miles a day to school and little savings adds up real quick. Using excel spreadsheet estimating # of trips each semester, it's around 8500-10000 miles per semester!

WELCOME!!you might look at the mods I made on my 2002 Infiniti Q45 Sport.
gotta run a gauge.
gotta 'adjust the nut behind the wheel.'
Ran higher psi for 200,000+ miles....never had a grip problem.
Went a size up on tire, to lower rpms while on freeway.
see links in sig for other mods

PS. never turned the AUto a/c off and still got 30+ mpg. If you are gong to drive a luxury car....ride in luxury!!!!

Exactly! The car may not get the economy of a 1.5L but it sure is comfy and quiet on the highway. The V8 is nice for those ramps too. When you say you ran high pressure for 200,000+ miles, did your tires wear unevenly? I've had Bridgestone Turanza Serenity for about a year and they're supposed to be on the fuel economy side. Before I had 10 year old michelins and ran those up to 40psi because frankly I didn't care. I just don't want the new tires to wear out prematurely. Oh since this is a RWD car, I have cheap snow tires that I put on it as well, it really helps with the snow bands on the toll road.

I ran kuhmo high performance summer tires (snow...what's 'snow'!) and never had any uneven wear. Got between 42-46k per set.
As a note, the q was fast but I'm in my 50s and drive much easier than you yougins!
