Hi from the Cold "North"

Hi,
I am not looking to change my current car (need one to drive), I am looking at purchasing a second car that I can do extreme mods on. I would like to do a ground linked electric hybrid. As I am 100 mi from the nearest Wal Mart ( my fav store, cheap without being trash) I would not be able to go totally electric. Since the town I live in is small I will probably get an electric golf cart (modified with surround) for in town driving.

Welcome to EM.

You posted in the right forum to introduce yourself. If you want to do another post on your specific project I'd just start up another one in the hybrid forum.

Apparently, I have a reflection now?

100 miles from the nearest Walmart? Do you live in the ocean...?

100 miles from a Walmart --- Is that the same as 10 miles from a Starbucks?
Come south in a retirement community around Tucson and you can find lots of golf carts. There are even several shops that specialize in working on golf carts. (SOmething for me to do when I retire from the defense industry) Some people here have scrounged electric parts from forklifts and made electric vehicle or motorcycle.

Welcome ...

Welcome to ecomodder. Thats crazy that you're 100 miles away from the nearest Wall Mart. Do you not have any McDonald's either (not that that's a bad thing)?

I think I saw on the Colbert Report that the location farthest from a Wal-Mart is in some corner of the Dakotas. 100mi, eh? It sounds to me like you need to start with a car with extremely good aerodynamics, then make the aerodynamics much better. Also get low rolling resistance tires.

The first gen Honda Insight is pretty much unbeatable among four-wheelers as far as aero goes, and if you can find one that has a dead battery or something, they're not terribly expensive.

The ocen? no!

Yes I live in the Dakotas, No we dont have a local McD's its also 100 miles away.
