Hello, I am Calin Alfianu, I am a Romanian living in Italy.
I am glad to see how many people are preoccupied by efficient cars in general, aerodynamics in special.
I don't have nor time, neither the space to do some homework (I would like to have), but I am playing a bit in virtual world...I cannot post a link yet...

I am driving an 2001 2.0 DTI Opel Astra (G) and I have some ideas to improve the aerodynamic of this car. I like this style, but unfortunately these days nobody designs like this, everybody gone crazy with "golf style". Still there are some Focus (in fact Focus went crazy too) and latest model of Civic. I prefer the "sportback" of Ciroen Xantia, Alfa Romeo 146, Citroen Xara when is about of compact 4 doors. I will not include many coupes I like a lot...

Welcome. I don't know the average temperatures in Italy, but if it stays cool enough, you could easily block off the upper grill completely.

Is not only a question of temperature. In that area is placed the engine air inlet and I prefer to be in a high pressure zone and also a small lever pops out to completely open the hood. If I block everything, I need to cut a slot to permit the lever to come out.

Looks sharp! What kind of mpg were you getting in the previous car compared to the new one?

Unfortunately I didn't have sufficient time to make serious measurements to see if I gained something or not. And I am not very enthusiastic because I don't feel like the dam is in right position. The presence of top inlet prevents the air to be guided on the exterior of the car... Maybe I am wrong. I prefer to have something more like this.
