high idle cold
 

I am winding down another summer, and need high idle again. I forget where it is supposed to be. in the dead of winter, it climbs to 2500, but that same setting in the summer goes to over 3000. no inbetweens apparently.
what is you warm time cold start idle?

when my car is cold it idles around 15-17 inches nt

Around 2-grand on a super-cold start.

There may be something amiss with a control valve of sorts (idle-air, etc.) On mine, it's a wax-based internal that melts at "warm" and allows proper intake flow. If it's solid, the air is bypassed, allowing a higher idle.

EDIT: Since you have a carb, make the appropriate adjustments with the set-screws.

Just jam it into 2nd and roll with it right away -- idling is your enemy. I do that with the automatic and let the extra idle carry the car. If you don't have some sort of engine block heater, I would get one now.
