The Hoax Car Thread
I thought it might be fun and edjikashunnal to get all the purported high fuel economy hoax cars in one spot... and if a car so designated is proven to be real, so much the better!
To start the list (in no particular order) (pics to follow...): 1. Neil Young's LincVolt 2. Doug Palmear's HP2e 3. The Shell Economy Ralley Opel 4. Those turbine Hummers |

If you ask the guys at my local Peugeot forum, a 307sw that claims to do 1660km on one tank is a hoax.

Ha ha, "Pure Energy Systems"... should be "Pure B.S. Systems". I've seen them before... that's where "out of the box" hails from, and some other doof... it'll come to me eventually...

This one is fast becoming a hoax - despite the running prototype hardware.
Excellent idea when launched, then managed into oblivion. They would have sold like hot cakes in 2008-2009 ! Free business advice : Launch the idea and build it, sell it. Start working on different spin-offs when money starts flowing in. |
Too bad- I like that one.

Wait, failed business == hoax?
|
Depends on their real intentions...
|
The standard business model nowadays seems to be Invent a car which does 100 mpg, brag about it, get investor money. Squander it like there is no tomorrow, and then file for bankruptcy.
Same goes for new battery technology. Remember those lead foam batteries a few years back? The company went under this year, after getting millions in government grants. *sigh* |
I nominate the Air Car. Anyone who passed high school physics should be able to see that the numbers don't add up.

I remember back in the 1970's, (the "real" gas shortage crisis?) someone actually devised and built a car that ran on chicken manure.
At least methane has much greater potential for providing real energy than a proposition that is merely 'hot air'. :p Today there is neither any shortage of gas, nor any shortage of hot air: "blah, blah, blah". Gee, even animal emissions have more potential value than what emanates from our mouths. |

If we needed any more proof that the XP car was/is a hoax, we now have it:

Maybe it's not a car, but what about the hoax of running a car on water? Or magnets on the fuel line (which I'm currently testing--they'd do better on the fridge seems to be the verdict..)

Or the cat before your carb designs where you can only operate your motor at one RPM but you get fantastic FE The water one is interesting, apparently you can run a diesel car on 20-50% water if you emulsify it, not a hoax, too bad there isn't the home emulsification kit, I would buy one in a heartbeat. Those million gallon a day jobs are too large. Cheers Ryan |
fiat 244 mpg
[QUOTE=silverinsight2;181290]'Sayin this was a hoax Frank?
How about a 244mpg Fiat? Hey guys. I am presently the owner of the Fiat. I will entertain any questions pertaining to the car. Until everyone understands how the mileage was achieved, there really isn't any reason for people to call it a hoax. Research first before conclusions are drawn. The net is full of answers. One only needs to ask. Ken Ken |
Hi Ken, excellent work.
Specs as can be found on your site. I believe it could do 244mpg on a closed circuit, at low speed, no suspension, no generator, oversized tires on high pressure, engine insulation, gearbox insulation, heavy P&G, etc. That plus the car was already very light to begin with. My car has none of that and can do 70 mpg or better in warm weather, driven at a constant pace of 35 mph. It must be over 3 times as heavy as the little Fiat. I have no doubt whatsoever that the Fiat could do 244 mpg. |

How about the smart? Wasnt it getting 100 mpg in its native country and when they imported it to the US it was epa to like 40 something?
Either the mpg vehicle fails to mature or the end result gets a fraction of the projected or estimated mpg. Im sure the Elio will be one of the 2. |
