Honda Accord Question

Hey all,,

I am currently driving a 98 Accord v6 with the B7XA 4 speed automatic transmission. The odometer reads 252,000 miles, and I have put 50,000 of those on myself over the last few years. The transmission shifts OK...definitely a slushbox, but at least it isn't slipping gears yet. Is there a way to tell if it has had the transmission has been replaced? The car is fine for my daily driver, but I've been looking for another car that is more eco-friendly. I'm also concerned about longevity of the transmission. The engine runs strong, but I'm worried the trans will leave me hanging. Car has too much body damage to bother restoring or doing a transmission swap.

Have you checked the color & smelled the trans fluid? If it is brown or smells burnt the transmission is likely well worn. This is a usually a good general indicator of the transmissions health.

Basically just look at it, look at bolt heads to see if they have any marks from being wrenched. I was going to say check the numbers of it, but if it was rebuilt, the same case would be used and they would match the engine.

FYI, if the tranny fluid is brown or black and smells funny, dont change it.

Thanks for the tip! I've definitely heard conflicting things but that clarifies things a bit. I'll check the fluid and report back.
