Awesome! I loved the Fit when I have looked at them. An EV version would be awesome.

MetroMPG 11-18-2010 11:45 AM

Annnnnd.... Honda is unwillingly dragged back into the EV game.

Notice the aero tweaks: Kamm-ish hatchback extension; and the squared off corners of the rear bumper cover.

And a grill block, too!

Yeah, no really good reason for an EV to have a grill. I went to a car show a while back, which had some old rear-engine cars there. None of them had any grills at all. It was really unusual-looking to me.

The Tesla Roadster doesn't have a "grill", but does have an airscoop and MASSIVE radiator for the air conditioning and power electronics cooling.

OK, I suppose a little grill for the AC is all right.

No grille needed or present on a classic 911.

I would bet they put grilles on cars that don't actually need them -- not to mention "fake" oversize grilles on cars that do -- for reasons of "consumer acceptance".

LOL!....so true. Better dragged back in than not at all, I guess.

Of course a big disadvantage of using this platform is that it's not really visually distinct from the ICE Fit. You'd think Honda would have already learned that lesson from the Civic hybrid, which arguably led them to create the visually distinct (from other Hondas, yet still Prius-like) Insight II.

I REALLY liked the look of the original Insight. It was distinct, memorable, and COOL!

The CR-Z is the car that fits that bill now. A battery electric version of the CR-Z would be a fantastic car. I think that in a two-seater, the focus tends to be on performance and sports-car-like characteristics.

I still SO want to see an EV CRX...

I would argue the counter-point to this is that the Fit/Jazz is *the* international hit for Honda these days. It makes sense that their #1 selling platform should have more flavors.

The Fit Ev has crisp trailing corners on the rear bumper, and small (vestigial) wheel strakes:

It also appears to have a rear belly pan (at least):

The Fit / Jazz is a brilliant design, and the more versions, the better. This article say it'll have a 100 mile range:

Awesome! It's about time Honda got off of the Fool Cell wagon. I asked them about EV plans at the Seattle Auto Show and they said they'd announce it in LA. Very nice looking, and sized to compete with the LEAF.

I agree that I'd love to see a CRZ electric!

Fit EV would be great for me. Or CR-Z EV if it were like the JDM 2+2:

Happy to see more production EV's

esoneson 12-03-2010 12:08 PM

Bring 'em on.....bring 'em on. The more EVs, Hybrids and Plugins the better. Creating the inevitable follow up of aftermarket products that will drive prices of EV components down. YES! Capitalism at work, for the working stiff with a DIY project. :D
