Honda Insight owner slows down: MPG up 14%
I get Google Alerts for news & blogs about fuel economy. This one popped up this morning and it's a neat read.
I always get a kick out of people's responses when they "discover" the effect of highway speed on fuel consumption. The non-hypermiling owner simply decided to slow to near the speed limit as an "experiment". Fuel saving and excited reactions ensued... Quote:
Of course the improvement doesn't take into account improving weather (temps), but it's still interesting to look at the fuel log: http://tinychoices.com/images/insightmileage060208.JPG http://tinychoices.com/2008/06/04/re...ay-experiment/ |
I like how the graph shows his "worst" still not dropping below 50....

With a few other tricks he'd easily be over 70.

I wish my worst was 50+, :)

The insight without the IMA Batt turned off still can make 54mpg. Same exact way and same tchnics of driving with Batt turned on you ca get 64mpg. That is 8.4% incerase. Highway different story, lean burn kicks and the car goes 70/75mpg with 70/75mph.
