Honda VX hesitation @1800rpm
when just slowly accelerating, at about 1800 rpm I get a hesitation.
I have all new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, timing set.. all the basics Is this the speed when lean burn stops and normal operation begins.. then vtec would kick on at 2300? |
When my HX is not warmed up all the way I get a loss of power during acceleration in that rpm range. It is quite noticeable. Once it is warmed up I don't have the issue.

I thought VTEC activated around 5k rpm?

I kinda sorta knew I had the same thing, but yesterday it affected me - due to the hesitation (1800-2000 rpm) they couldn't do an emission test on the rollers. So I have to figure out what it is before I go back. At least they gave me my $20 back for the test.
My old catalytic converter was bad (clogged, sort of), O2 sensor okay, replaced the cat. The engine bogged bad before at 2000-2200 rpm Now it responds better but I need to pass emissions. Arg. sdc |
Why do you say your o2 sensor is ok? for some reason the VX has a hard time with telling the ECU that the O2 sensor is bad when it is, so how do you tell it's bad? under light acceleration it will stumble, normally around 1,800-2,000 rpm, but then again I might be wrong, I've only had two vx's and three bad o2 sensors in the last 5 years.

I was told it was okay by a mechanic, but other than that, I don't have any concrete data.
Having poked around a lot on the 'intraweb' after posting my comment above, I realize that the O2 sensor is probably bad. There seems to be a lot of people who discovered replacing their "good" O2 sensor helped things out. thanks for the note, sdc |
