How about a Race???

More like a rally really............

I was thinking after watching the X prize footage etc, punding round a track is all well and good but what about a sense of real world adventure?

How about an ECO-cannonball - New York to San Fran for example or London to Porto. At the speed lmit. but on the least fuel/energy

A datum car would set a boogie time for a given sector, so that if someone particularly slo in order to save fuel that could be judged and get a MPG Penality.

Each Car would have to have a fixed camera(to monitor traffic) a GPS tracker (to monitor speed and distance) and a fuel cap lock / monitor

Manufacturers get the 'speed/exitement' element and 'normos' get to see that High Mpg's are restricted to apparently boring cars.....

whos up for it?

Sounds like a cool idea, but not the kind of thing you can just throw together. It would need a ligit organization/comity to plan it correctly and made the results valid.
Plus, I am not sure if the people who are really into saving fuel want to waste it just to prove how much they save, lol.

heck it'd only be 30gallons for an insight running 100mpg ;)

so thats $105 at 'peak oil'

Hmmm, Wacky Races ?

Seriously, I think it's a good idea, but I wouldn't really call it a race, more like a ecomodding marathon of drawing attention to these wonderful practices to help cure our addiction to this foul contraption called oil.

I'm game. Especially if we can get some impressive results and turn some heads while getting together and having a good time. :)

We could also include different fuel categories (Ethanol, EV, Hydrogen, Petrol) and compare results.

So, maybe by 2012?

Will the winner be determined by % over EPA combined or..?

I'd think for different fuels it should be based on gasoline energy equivalent, ie x amount of fuel source = energy in 1 gallon of gas. This is a commonly used basis and would level the playing field.

How about calling it an Eco-Rally?

Based on the contentious discussion toward post #64 of the http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...und-13636.html thread, MPGe is not as commonly agreed upon as you might think...

I think there should be awards for each of the four classes.

- Best MPG inclass
- most improved over EPAc ( or suggested range for EVs?)

But I also think there should be a BEST MPG overall as a kind of 'Blue Ribbon'

Also I think that maybe there should be a Proto class and a Mod Class so that Manufacturers can be tempted to bring new tech and show-off what vehicles you can actually buy!

p.s. the idea I had for the euro versio goes past Le Mans..... just excites me alittle as an enduro boy!
