How can I reset a scangaugeII

Scangauge thinks I used 18 gallons when I filled up. It was removed from my old vehicle and stuck in a drawer for 6 months. When I filled up it thought I put in 18 gallons. When I corrected it to 9.7 it changed it a bunch of %( I don't remember exactly)I mean drastically like 68%. I have a 99 Escort with a 13 gallon tank and the scangauge says I have 1900 miles til empty. Please help. Also, the SG does not want to come on in the morning, it flickers on and off. In the afternoon when I get out of work it fires right up. ??

Going by my trip meter I went 380.8 miles on 9.7 gallons, I figure I got 39 MPG.

Thanks all

John

...read the paragraphs about "resetting" the unit back to original factory 'vanilla' settings.

It doesn't know what car it's in, so it thinks it's still in the other car .

As Old Tele Man says, reset it to stock first, and then enter the correct engine size in its settings.

You also need to calibrate it a bit after the next fuelings.

According to the manual, the display doesn't like being too cold or too hot - but the operating range is 0F to 160F.

OK, I just moved to a new house and all of my stuff is in the Twilight Zone. I might find it in a week or two or three..

Thanks all

Thanks guys. I bought gas yesterday and was getting incredible readings on it so when I got home from the fillup, I saw the default setting on there and reset it. I did not know that was all there is to it. This morning going to work, it seemed a little closer than it was so I think I'll just do a couple of regular fillups and I'll bet it will be OK.
I have been riding a motorcycle since August so when I bought this cream puff escort with 206K I couldn't wait to hook up the gauge and I got in a hurry. Nice car, nice gauge. NICE HEATER. 39 MPG first fillup. A good starting point to start ecomodding.
