Never Meet Your Heroes

When I first got into all this, there was a certain online automotive publication with a prolific author who did really cool ecomods and electronic projects. He was super thorough and posted great photos of the process. He was by far my favourite gearhead author.

At the same time I was heavily involved with Ecomodder and did a lot of mods to my vehicles, many seemed to work and I improved my MPG a lot. It was fun and I never hesitated posting here.

I got busy with life and came back to ecomodder recently to find him here being abusive and attacking anyone who dares to call him on his abuse. He seems totally blind to it despite a lot of pushback from other members. I grew up with someone very similar and I find it very difficult to bring myself to post here again. I guess this kind of behaviour is very fashionable these days but I'm so done with it myself. I don't want to have to spend a lot of time calling that crap out but I don't think I'll be able to help myself.

It's such a shame that people, especially people you used to admire turn out to be such total disappointments in real life. It colours all of their work and ruins it for me.

Anyway. Mean people suck. It's a very 2020 story.

It is good to see a lot of my old friends still on here though.

Cheers.

Ignorance is bliss.

I've taken to not digging deeper in to certain things or looking up the few people in the world that I realized I attributed as being better than they probably actually are, or if they were, they will have changed from by now...

It would suck to come face to face with one of them today, realize they weren't all you thought they were...it would snuff out one of the glimmers of light in the darkness of this world, in people...I don't think I could handle losing what few of those there are left.

Condolences on your loss.

I have met my heroes and generally found them to be a disappointment. Obviously it is my error, so I now put them on a 4"x4" pillar so it's not so far to fall.

I met a few celebrities from the sports, and some local TV hosts who I don't really see as a celebrity.

Thinking about it some more and if I go back and look at most of the people who's work I admired and then met, it turns out they were mostly good to great people so maybe the saying should be "If you meet your heroes be ready for the unexpected" but that really does not roll off the tongue. LOL.

Be grateful for the nice people is maybe a new thread I need to start. Nice people don't get enough press these days.

Reminds the day I met soccer coach Valdir Espinosa. I was walking in a park with my dog when I saw some banners with advertisements of the election for the presidency of Grêmio (the most traditional soccer team in my hometown), and coach Espinosa was there showing his support for one of the candidacies. Even though I am not an associate, and then not entitled to vote, he invited me to take a picture with him as he did with any other Grêmio supporter who went there.

What a joke, like the mean school football coach who never made the major league.

That's helpful to understanding. Illegitimi_non_carborundum

I never use it but I think there's a feature to block other users. I think it works in general but they still creep into other's text quotes.

I admire everyone seeking truth and have contempt for anyone who knows truth and hides from it. That doesn't mean I only admire those who are "right", but those who are not purposely deceptive.

Merry Christmas!
